I'm thinking of buying a basic version of PhotoShop for my wife for christmas.

Has anyone got a home PC version of this, all she wants to do is have a play and make posters out of the kids photos etc.

I have had a look on Amazon and there are so many diffrent versons at so many diffrent prices I do not know what to get...

Please help.

Agree with the poster above. Photoshop Elements has all you need to get started. The full version of Photoshop is excellent but most people wouldn't use 90% of the features for having a play around - the other 10% are in Elements.

Another +1. we had elements on Mac and we didnt use 95% of the features in it!!! more than enough for the casual photo chopper!

I agree with the above, buying the full photoshop app is wasteful and very confusing. unless you have training you'll be unlikely to use most of it

I also think the adobe model is now based on subscription paying a monthly fee rather than the one off payments previously ... and to be honest there are lots of free download programs that are perfectly good for general use.

if it were me, I'd put the money towards something else for Christmas and get the wife into using GIMP. Despite the somewhat dodgy monicker, its a fully-featured image editor that is every bit as, if not more powerful and feature-rich as Elements.

I've used Photoshop for years and currently have Photoshop Elements v10. The latest out is v12 but hardly adds to V11 in useability. I find that Elements, which is a cut down version of the, very expensive, full version of Photoshop does pretty much everything I want to do with my photo's , and I process every single picture I take including RAW format.

I certainly would recommend Elements as a really good program that I doubt you will outgrow

I've used Photoshop at work for 20 odd years and have the latest version, I've also got Elements 10 on one of my laptops and it will be fine for what you want - was £34.99 on amazon sale yesterday with Premiere Elements video editing software included

Cheers for your help guys,

Managed to get elements 12 for £34 so happy with that.

Another vote for Elements. It's really good. I have version 10. Is it worth upgrading to v 12?

I've also used Scott Kelby's book "The photoshop elements 10 book for digital photographers". It's a really helpful guide through the extensive software. I don't know if there's a v12 equivalent.
