Myself and HID are looking at venues in the States. We've been to Myrtle Beach 5 out of the last 6 years and really enjoy it and now know the layout very well. Thinking about a change of venue this year so considering Arizona or California. Many thanks to those that have already posted in the California thread, that has been very helpful.

I'm looking for similar advice for the Phoenix area as well. From what I can see there is an abundance of courses but spread out over a huge area. HID is very much a 'holiday golfer' so it's not worth paying big green fees for her and all the cheaper end courses appear to be.....well......cheap. Lots of good courses at $100+ a round but not prepared to pay that.

In MB we can get on some VERY good courses for $30-$50 a round which is fine for holiday golf.

Also, we will be going first 2 weeks in October which I have been advised is when a lot of courses close for overseeding.

Any advice on where to stay and courses that are good VFM from anyone that knows the area please?

Friend of mine travels regularly to Phoenix and says:
The marriot is lovely and it's right by the tpc course - failing that the Westin kierland is good too.

The Scottsdale area isn't that big, and you will have a car - it is America, after all.

It will still be warm - hot in October. The courses also do some maintenance around then, overseeding, so the greens are poor for a while. Google around to find out overseeding schedules.

Have you considered going a bit further south from Myrtle beach, to the Hilton Head area, or to SoCal, with lots of nice golf around San Diego?

Edit: Just seen you were considering SoCal. I love SoCal, great climate and lots of other things to do. Longer flight, though.

I've only ever been to the States once, stayed at the Scottsdale Princess resort and played at TPC Scottsdale as well as a few other courses in the area, but it was so long ago I can't remember what they were called now.
We went in November and the courses, unlike my game at the time, were absolutely immaculate.
As were the babyback ribs in the Grill room at the TPC.
Yum yum yum.
And the Caesar salad was to die for.
