Hi all, just received tickets for my two brother in laws and I for the Saturday and we wanted to make a full weekend out of it. None of us are particularly talented golfers but would like to play somewhere nice either on the Friday or the Sunday. We would like, and I know this might be asking a bit too much, a friendly, welcoming environment, that 3 hackers could enjoy without feeling out of their depth but enjoying a course in good condition.
When I used to play I was off 10 but haven't swung a golf club since the children came along 7 yrs ago, I will be getting in some practice soon. The other two are 28's I believe but play more regularly and we all know the etiquette and rules so won't be annoying anyone :)

Edit: and any recommendation for accommodation would be great as well.

Any suggestions greatly received.

cheers

john

May be able to accommodate you at Royal Ascot - about 15-20 minutes drive depending on traffic. Come back to me nearer the time via the private message function if you are still interested or don't get a better offer!

Plenty of nice courses where you can spend anyrhing from £70-150 a round but there are a couple of decent cheaper options at Silvermere and Downshire. Both are within 20mins or so drive of Wentworth. If you want to play top end and don't mind spending the cash, I would go for one of the 3 W's (West Hill, Worplesdon or Woking in that order) or The Berkshires which has 2 courses, the Red is the better one.

I played Pyford and Camberley Heath last time i was down, play Camberley if you get the chance, cracking course and worth every penny.

Or Sunningdale which is right next door Wentworth.

Basically, there are loads of courses within 10 miles, we're spoiled for choice round here

Maximum handicap is 18 at Sunningdale.

Silvermere is a good shout, as I imagine it will be easier to get a game on a Sunday there. A lot of private Clubs only allow guests to play with members at the weekend. Worth checking before rolling up for a game.

IMHO, Hoebridge is a better muni than Silvermere so might be worth considering as well. Pine Ridge is another good option if you want to go the muni route, and closer to Wentworth.
