Pga Humana event - course definition

Just watching coverage of the Humana event, what has struck me visually is the definition between parts of the fairway, semi and them brown rough. How do they achieve the sculpted transitions - can't water that neatly can you?

it's probably grass that is dormant and does not green up until the summer. The Montgomerie course in Belek was like that when i played it a couple of years ago in February.

Yeah....dormant grasses. Played a few courses in the States early in the year and they are like this, middle of summer they will be completely green.

The question is, why plant grass that is dormant? It's like planting roses, that don't flower.

First post on here, only found the forum yesterday. Bermuda grass is native to the US & is very resistant to heat but is dormant in winter. The courses are over-seeded with different grasses to achieve the playability & definition early in the season. Have to say how visually stunning the PGA West course looks on the broadcast. Would love to play there!

It's only dormant in Winter! And that is the time when having punishing deeper rough makes an already less enjoyable round simply downright frustrating!

Having played a fair amount on Links courses, where the Marram shrinks, flattens and the club-grabbing stalks disappear, I can thoroughly commend their equivalent use of different grasses. And the visual effect is pretty stunning too!

At the moment I don't. Didn't hit a ball for 10 years. Last HC was 8. Best was 4 a long time ago. Been inflicted by the Golf disease all my life. Twice I gave it up for long periods. 56 years old now. Moving to the Bournemouth area in march & looking to start playing again then. Just hitting range balls in the freezing cold at the moment. Still hit it OK. Appreciate the welcome, thanks.
