Petrol heads advice would be much appreciated please?

I have a gas guzzling Suzuki Grand Vitara, and I think the VED is going to get even more expensive ( I may be wrong on that one though) next April. I love the driving position and as I regularly go up and down the A1 M11 M25 route it does feel nice and safe, however I would like find something with.......wait for it......Diesel, zero tax, good mph (over 60 comb) reasonably low mileage, good adjustable driving position, not that easy if your short and have a knackered back!!) and of course a boot big enough for a girls golf bag and lots of gadgets to relieve the boredom

Oh and a budget of around 5k any suggestions will be very gratefully received

A two or three year old medium sized Citröen perhaps. They have a high depreciation rate and rapidly become very affordable. I have had four in a row and they all proved pretty reliable, despite their reputation. They are generally very comfortable and nice to drive, and come with plenty of gadgets.

My mate has new a Dacia Stepway { not sure of the spelling or fuel} His clubs and go kart fit in the boot no problem and he seems pleased with price and performance.:thup:

Diesel seems to have been highlighted as a major contributor to air pollution recently. Some talk of banning it in large cities? Seems a bit far fetched, but it's possible they will increase the tax on it to try and make it less popular rather than outright ban it.

If I was buying a car, I'd probably get petrol just in case.

sadly they have no adjustment to raise the seat or lower the steering wheel, very good price though and bringing out a new one next year so will be even better deals around I guess.

You can pick up a 2013 Dacia for about £5000.

I have peeked around at cars in the past, in case I needed a bigger one for the growing family.

The CashCow seemed a good choice.

The only thing I found with the Qashqai is the boot isn't as big as you would think when I looked at them.
The Skoda Superb has a boot that will carry just about anything but if that's a bit too big you can get a low mileage Skoda Octavia for that money. A good size boot and good reliability.
