personal online golf lessons...? whats your view?

Hi everyone.
I wanted to see if online lessons really helped, as most of the websites you see you have to describe your problem (like 'I'm slicing it, help!) and then you'd wait for a reply, but I found this website www.directgolftuition.com

on this one you actually post a video of your swing on your personal page on the website and they take it away, look at it and then post it back to your page with them talking you through your problems over your original video and also drawing bits onto it to show you where you need to change. then they'll give you drills and tips to go away and practice- so much more helpful and personal!!

i signed up, as the first lesson is free, and although the PGA pro's promise to get back to you within 24 hours mine came back quicker as you are allocated to your own professional.

I've now had a few more lessons (you can decide as and when you want another one) and I can actually see the improvement as you can watch your old videos back and compare how you've changed.

they also have a great members section which is being constantly updated and you can post your own jokes and course reviews, download wallpapers etc and if you are cynical about online golf lessons, this really will change your mind. its really personal and you get to see where you're going wrong on the screen and they also point out all the good bits you're doing too, which certainly made me feel a bit better!!

so what do you guys think? sign up for the free lesson and let us all know!

Any body else smell something fishy?

Perin, this is a golf forum not a free advertising board!

If you were a member of this forum and contributing regularly I would read with interest your views etc. You have let yourself and whatever you were flogging down by trying this trick!

Good luck in the future.

Well ... sounds like another pile of pish to me.

Are we to beleive that you are NOT connected to this site or company? ... Thought not.

Are you only on this forum to line your pockets? ...... Thought so.

I am sure the editor of the magazine would love to take a four digit cheque from you and allocate some column inches for your venture so don't use this forum to gain exposure for your site.

Oh, I see, you sign up to the forum and kick off with this little post....do you have a vested interest or what???

I am a professional coach/teacher and quite frankly online video lessons is an insult to those of us who have given our lives to getting to know our pupils, developing their ability and providing a real-life service.

If any members want a video lesson, I'll do it for free.

Sorry, you did ask for views.

There are plenty of free online sources of instruction, hell even here is great for fixing small issues, theres always someone on here who can help you.
Ive found though that the best instruction is in situ, trying to learn something you read the night/week before is nowhere near as effective as someone stading beside you guiding you.

Hi there, just joined this forum bloody marvelous! i have had a look at the site and the format looks pretty good, i am going to get my free lesson, and see if it is any good, however i am really interested in your offer to teach me for free so: what are your contact detail so i can send my crippled swing over to you to look at, i would really appreciate it also, i have 2 other mates who would be interested in having you look at their swing too if you dont mind? I have been playing about a year and am hooked but slice it like you wouldnt believe, i have had a few lessons but they are really expensive £40.00 50 mins! i should have been a pro like you ha ha!so how can i get my swing to you so you can teach me over the web, i am always recording my swing and see where i am going wrong but to be honest i need an expert eye like yours thanks again for the free offer i loo forward to you trying to sort out my power slice!!!

Well Thanks Guys! was only trying to help fellow golfers.

I have nothing to do with the site. I am a 23 year old archaeologist. I just cant afford regular lessons and the pro i went to said i would need 1 every 2 weeks for about 3 months to get to half a decent standard, coz i have just started and am not the best!

You are so cynical and predudice against women's views i think, or is that taking it a bit far?!

I dont want to get into a fight but i was only trying to be helpful and see what other people thought of online golf lessons! wont bother next time. Was just excited about starting this new sport!

I understand your view that golf pro's dedicate their lives to helping people get better, but I simply can't afford it and here is an alternative, but still run by pga pro's. and you guys certainly earn a lot more than me.

I will cancel my membership to this site. I was always told golf was a rich boys game. now it's confirmed.

Yep, we're all millionaires here. No women allowed.

Don't be so ridiculous, the reason you got the responses you did was because you were blatantly plugging a service on your VERY FIRST POST!!!

It was absolutely nothing to do with your sex, because I had no idea you were a woman until you bleated about it.

Jog on. You won't be missed.

To me a golf lesson should be a 1 on 1 in person at the pros location not via a dvd.Its nice to have a film of your swing etc, but surely its better to go to your local pro for lessons so you can get better feed back.
I feel you have to be shown what you are doing wrong and if there is no one behind you to do that its a waste of money and time.

Perhaps i have it wrong but its just my opinion and no ADVERTISERS in the forum please.

So the fact that there is another forum with exactly the same post on it (word for word )by another single post member has nothing to do with any commercial aspect that may have suggested by the good members of this forum !

Oh that other post has an answer by yet another single post member.

Sherlock where are you?

Wait, the first post you put up was about as subtle as a rhino on a golf course. 4 time, not once, twice not even three but four times you put the link up to the site in one post.
Then the 'is it cause im a woman' second post??? I think you'll find that although the core forum users are mainly men, excepting alib, I think she is more than capable of holding her own (pardon me) in any subject or area within golf or daily life.
Aaaaaaaannnnd then theres the rich mans game, yea thats right. I suppose its relative, if you are broke and have no clubs then yes its expensive, if you are broke and you have clubs then it isnt. It look pretty grim when someone registers here just to advertise, then, goes on to slag the membership because its a little critical about the merits of the post. Off you go love, obviously golf is a big persons game and you are obviously not ready for us yet.

Have I missed something, how were we to know Perin was a woman?
As for being loaded, please. You drive my 1997 Nissan Primera and then tell me I'm loaded. Damn didn't really want to mention that esp after the owners wheels post... Oh well.
Also the whole point of a teaching pro is not only to tell you what you should be doing but to make sure you're putting it in to practise there and then. I may think I'm doing it right but I can't see myself. 1 on 1 all the way.

I don't think you should go Perin. If you are excited about taking up golf, you couldn't be in a better place for advice and ideas.
If you are still around, please, please stay and put us to the test.
1) It was difficult to judge the post because we get so many one-time posters advertising stuff. If you are genuine, you won't find a better golf forum. The directgolftuition website was actually a hard one to judge, no GB address under "contact us" and...
2) There was no way we could've known which sex you were? and...
3) If you'd introduced yourself before crashing into the post, we'd have taken you under our wing....everyone is allowed to say and post whatever they want.
lastly,
4) don't know what being rich or poor has got to do with it....there's no shortage of public course players here, and I think you'll discover (if you stick around) that there are plenty of down-to-earth views, even extending to the socialist or downright communist!!!

Give us a try.

Dave
