Just got back from the best days golf EVER. let me set the scene.

I am running late, its raining heavy and i cant find a parking space. After running into the pro shop and paying my fee i leg it down to my mate who is on the first tee already played his shot. No practice swings, no warm up, nothin.

Over shoots the green and makes a bogey, Followed by bogey, bogey double, bogey then the first par,

I was hitting fairways easily and was drivin the ball a good 260.

Constant 2 putts from everywhere and i think i only missed one from under 6 foot. Everythin else dropped with ease.

Went out in 44, came back in 44, Par 70. 18 over, gross 88

With no official handicap yet i normally play to about a 20-22 on a good day.

Breaking 90 for first time was ace. Not bad i thought considering i have only been playing 6 months.

Was definitly room for improvemnt as i did fat a couple of chip shots so really should have shot about an 85/86. But i am more than chuffed.

Lesson tonight too so are my scores gonna keep dropping?

Just curious but what are everyones p.b's?

PB is 66 (-2) at Wimbledon Common in a friendly and 68 (level par) in a competition

I can never play well if I've rushed to the club. My tempo is out for the whole round and I never seem to get my mind right

Well done TonyN
Could it be no practice before game, play better??? :)
My p.b. is 98 which I shot a couple of week ends ago, really chuffed with that. :D
Once again well done and lets hope those low scores keep on coming. :)

In competition 5 over, during matchplay with gimmes 1 over. But those are both quite some time ago.

Since I've come back to the game my best is 8 over (including 5x3putts and one lost ball).

I tell you what though Tony, when you rush onto the 1st tee it's a nightmare - I don't think I've ever had a good one after that as my round seems to depend entireley no the quality of the 1st hole.

I find that I hit chips fat more often when the ground is damp - you need to be so much more precise don't you?

Congrats on the good pb

I really thought i was gonna have a dodgy round because i rushed, and with it raining hard i wondered if it was worth my green fee. But my mate who i played with used to play off single figures and hit the ball like a dream, his swing is a joy to watch. (he hit the green on a 293 par 4 today)

It was very damp today so i was surprised i only fatted two shots.

Well done Tony, nice job! I've managed a couple of great rounds without warming up etc. it's a case of good fortune I suspect! I drove up to Leeds (Roundhay), climbed out the car straight onto the 1st and went round about 15 over (off 12), not great. Then again, drove down to West Middlesex once from Oxford, straight onto the 1st (not even time to spend a penny) and managed a 75.....
For me, it depends on whether I've practiced/played the day before...if not, it's usually rubbish!!

Was my first round since last week but i think because i played with some one who strikes the ball so well it helped me.

I know it may sound daft but by watching his perfect tempo each time he shot, it helped me not to try hit the ball too hard. He made a few pointers for me and it really kept me going.

I felt i could of played another 18. I didnt feel any niggles or pulls and usualy i do from over hitting.

Well done TonyN kep it going, hmmmmmm good question, about 8 years ago I shot a 75 at ruislip (par 69 in summer)as for now probably around 90 on a par 68

Keep it going Tony. I read of so many forum contributors breaking their personal best. There all targets I once had, but now my target is to play more consistent. I’m continually in the search for a better strike of the ball, fiddling about with one thing or the other. It doesn’t matter what level you play at, the handicap system makes sure we continue to strive for perfection.

Anyway, my best score in a bounce, sweep, game is 65, just couldn’t do anything wrong. In competition it’s 67 to win my clubs biggest annual open, that was about 30 years ago. Now, just this year, I’m a member at another club, I took 73 shots in my opening Medal (par 70) to silence one or two people who thought I might struggle there. :)

Back to back 77 & 78 last month.(par 71) Consistently in low 80's but frustrated at not breaking 80 again in the last month despite solid approach play. Putting really is letting me down :D

Had a lesson tonight and concentrated on weight transfere or should i say getting rid of it.

Basically i slide my hips from side to side. I now have to concentrate on turning only and forgetting about any weight transfere, it should come naturally.

When i got to grips with it i hit some excellent shots (with a hint of draw i might add)

Just hope i can get it all together and use it tommorow)

Dont you love this game when it loves you!!!

At the time of playing off a nominal 28, I suddenly had rounds of 83,83 and 87 (two 15 overs and a 17) on sucessive days. Don't know where it came from, or where it went to, as I've come nowhere close since.

Well Done Tony.

Last year I shot 79, when i was off 17, & promptly got cut to 14, which I've been able to play to through the winter (although over a shorter course.)

So I've really been looking forward to this year, if only it would stop raining.

PB is 73 gross at Patshull Park playing off 7 a couple of years ago but have slipped to 8.6 now.

And I bet we all have similar rounds where the front nine is fantastic "I should be a pro " and then the back nine is "why oh why do I play this sport" or vica versa. ;) ;)
