I had played a fair bit of pitch & putt in my native Doncaster as a teenager (mid to late 1980's), and around 8 rounds hiring a half set on a municipal course, then took it up again when I got my first car up in the North East (where I had moved for Poly 5 years earlier) in 1995. Was a member playing weekend competitions for around 4 years from 1996-2000 reaching a peak of 21 handicap, but packed it in due to chronic back problems, and playing in complete pain, and paying large sums to chiropractor for little benefit. So decided the only cure was rest (packed in doing the weights too)

Started playing again socially 4 years ago, then in our council's society. Won the first society comp I played in with 40 points at South Shields in October 2007, so as a new bandit got cut 3 shots.
Didn't manage a win last year, and then got voted in as secretary for this year.

And finally to get to the point(!!), on Tuesday we played at Tyneside (Ryton) - an absolute first class course. Playing off 17.6, I opened with a par, then picked up only 2 points in the next 3 in total, and thought it was going to be 'one of those days' I then parred 7 (and bogeyed the other) of the next 8, and am still pinching myself!!, then another par & birdie to take it with 41 points, 4 clear of the field (13 over par 83). Chuffed is an understatement!!

My prize was a free round for 2 at the same beautiful course, as well as a cut to 14.6! Obviously delighted to be at a new low handicap (ok, I know it's not a 'real' club handicap, but am sure there wouldn't be a lot in it??), but know it will be tough off that mark, but at the end of the day that's the objective, and to get even lower.

Just thought I'd share my good news with fellow golf enthusiasts!

Thanks CrapHacker :)

Will feel frustrated not getting a shot at the SI 16-18, but such is life!

I only play once a week; off to the local Par 3 with 10 year old daughter now, who I've been promising for ages. Just need a hole-in-one now!
