I'm looking for a pencil bag for the summer. Anybody had one they'd particularly recommend, or equally recommend avoiding like the plague. Waterproof isn't a priority as this one is definitely for dry summer evenings, no particular brand loyalty and south of 50 quid preferred but not essential. Thanks.

Mizuno Scratchsac was a great bag while I had it, really well built and picked it up quite cheap too. Plus its called Scratchsac...

Any bag or brand , does not matter, I got a Wilson ,won it in a comp , its does the job for a few holes in the evening

Brilliant for a quick nine in the evening. A limited choice of clubs will force you to learn how to play different shots to compensate and that has to benefit the game as a whole
I cannot see the point in that, what happens when you put the rest back and you do not need to invent a shot with a 6 iron to go like an 8 iron 'cos you have an 8 iron.....? Who'd bother with that. Pencil bags are for pencils.

Scratchsac was good. But throw the hood away as it's useless in the rain and no point any other time!

Don't expect a Bushnell to stay in the little net ball-holder either!

One that I would like, and recommend, is a Wilson one - and I think another brand does it too - that has small stand-bag type legs - and a plastic 'base'. Keeps the entire bag off the ground, which avoids getting things wet and much easier to select/replace the clubs. Just on £50 I believe.

I have last years version of this, pocket layout is slightly different. Has the double strap, velour lined valuables pocket and most importantly a velcro patch for my glove! Delivered to your door for £33. Chuck in the forum code and save yourself another pound ish!

Edit - just re read the link again and not sure this model has the all important velcro glove patch - could be a deal breaker that.

I have a sun mountain one, can carry anything between a few clubs and a full set. Pocket for a bottle of water, one for a few balls and just about room for a paclite jacket if needed, think theyre great in the summer in dry conditions

The ping Viagra one is good ( the handle that sticks up in the air one) or Titleist do a couple of nice double strap ones, or you could try the mizuno scratch sac ( yes, really)

Thanks for all the recommendations so far; I'll probably dismiss the Mizuno purely on the basis that I'd prefer some sort of divider in the top of the bag. Of the recommendations so far the Callaway Hyper-Lite seems favourite, although I need to find one of the Taylor Made ones that fundy recommended, especially at that price. Titleist & Ping possibly a bit pricey for the use that it will get. if anyone's got any further comments in light of the above, please chime in.

Used a moonlite for a couple of years until I got some new woods and the bag clatter started scratching up the 3wood shaft. It was handy while I had a trolley bag, but I have got rid of the trolley bag and now have a stadry stand bag which sits brilliantly on trolley and is obviously easy to carry. Nice not having the faff of switching bags anymore, and the moonlite is only used for 3-club comps etc. Personally I'd steer clear of any pencil bags that don't have a full length divider - if you're at all precious about looking after your clubs like me!

I have a Inesis doggy bag (from decathlon) that used to be my main bag.

Don't think they sell them anymore but it had a little stand and the strap stayed upright making it easier to pick up off the ground. Only problem was it only had a single strap.

My mate uses a titleist pencil bag and it looks more hassle than its worth, his clubs always clatter and are a nightmare to get into the bag, its pretty much like carrying your clubs in a carrier bag.

They are great for summer though, but make sure you get one with a divider and one with a double strap.

Have just found this from decathlon which looks fairly decent. Its like a cross between a stand bag and a pencil bag, could be worth a look if you go past a shop.

I shopped around for one recently, wanted a pencil bag to take up less space in the car on weekend trips with my wife and the baby. The Ping moonlite is really good, decent sized opening, a 2 way top and full length divider. It's possible to get a full set of 14 in there. Clothes pocket is big enough for my waterproof jacket, but can't get the trousers in as well. The other pocket is a decent size and te external water bottle pouch is handy.
I thought it was the best of the bunch.

The mizuno is way smaller than the ping. You may get 14 in but it would be much tighter.

Have a look at the sun mountain swift x too. It's a stand bag but only one divider and super small and light.
