Generally as a glass half empty person my golf skills and scores have been getting better due to my duffed shots being not as horrific as they once were. They are becoming less frequent and generally going towards the hole instead of finding deep rough or water. Hence i've more or less cut out the embarrassing scores on a hole (9+ on a Par 4/5 or 6+ on a par 3 etc) but not getting closer to really good scores at the other end of the spectrum, i've only ever made 1 birdie on a hole and might get 2-3 pars over 18 holes on a good day.
It makes me think when i read stories on here from golfers with low handicaps recall horror stories of hitting double figures on holes yet still going round in an aceptable score because birdies and pars cancel out the bad holes.
Who would describe their golf as consistent scores over 18 or peaks and troughs where a round consists of some brilliant play with birdies combined with some very high scores but ultimately posting a total score similar to the consistent player.
Is each style/method achieved by design or just how your game is naturally?

Peaks and Troughs definately.

Had mainly bogies and a couple of doubles but 3 pars...(ok so far) PLUS an 8, 9 and 10...so basically turn what was a sub 100 card into a 109 :( lol

The round previous, i'd par 2 out of the 3 card ruining holes!

Every round I play is a roller coaster of highs and lows. I wish I coulkd be boring and knock it down the hole, get close to the green, get it on, two putt and move off. Would fare pretty well. Not a chance and I tend to go off piste at least once and add in a brain meltdown and poor decision somewhere along the line to keep things interesting

No matter what level your at you'll have peaks and trough days, when your really good the difference between the two gets closer.

Today I had a mixture of bombing it 310 yards (with a hugh tailwind) down the middle of a par 4 only to take another 2 shots onto the green and 3 putt for a double bogey, the next hole was a par 180 yards into the wind which I land it 2 feet from the pin, only to roll it round the cup and lip out. The next hole take 3 shots to reach 320 yards then sink a long put for par. I then bomb the next tee shot down the middle and end up in the normally unreachable water hazard, take a drop behind the hazard, top the ball and skim it over the water and into a bunker which I take 2 shots to get out and then 2 putt.

Golf is a strange game but it is one that no one will ever be perfect at. That's why I love it

+1

The aim over the winter was to eliminate the +8 and over scores from my card, which I did for the first time in a medal in March. Now I want to work on those pesky +7's!

Have we met?

I've had several rounds where I've scored Stableford points on every hole so have to go into the 'consistent' bucket.

Trying to be more aggressive/attacking tends to work against my scoring.

I don't make loads of birdies, so my good rounds tend to be when I don't have any (at least no more than 1) doubles or triples on the card. My really good scores come when the pars outdo the bogies.

Take yesterday for example, doubled the 1st then had 10 bogies and 7 pars for an 82. On another day with a hot putter and a tighter short game it could have been a 77 or 78.

My best round in the last year came after a double at the first and an OB Tee shot at the second from which I managed to rescue bogey. I then had 12 x pars and 4 bogies for a 77.

I think I'd have to describe myself as consistent.
