Yesterday was the 10th aniversary of the late Payne Stewart's death.

A great golfer and fantastic character who lightened up the game with his crazy but dam smart atire and great ball striking ability.

A huge loss to the game and a gentleman.

The lone piper at Stewart's PGA rememberance

God bless.

His death was one of the few I remember where I was and what I was doing. It shows that you can be charismatic, gifted and be a thoroughly nice person as well. The whipper snappers on tour now should take note.

Good post TC.

Agree wholeheartedly,
The guy was class through and through, a great competitor but superbly gracious in defeat.
I remember him sneaking into 2nd place at Royal St Georges when Lyle won the Open, only saw him once at the Scottish Open when it was at Gleneagles in 1989 I think.

Met him at St Andrews during the Dunhill when it was a team comp, i had my oldest son who was in his buggy ,he had had major surgery and Payne asked why such a big kid was in a buggy, he took 5 minutes asking me questions about it and got the rest of his team over, it was the Miami Dolphins and they were there playing the practise round with him, will always remember that. 4 weeks later he passed away in the air crash a great loss to golf and the world in general.

Good God is it really ten years? Where has the time gone?

For me, the mark of the man was his concession to Colin Montgomerie in that year's (I think) Ryder Cup. A true gentleman and a sportsman. One or two of today's "stars" would do well to take note.

Never really liked him as a player. Not sure why but probably to do with his outfits. However as a golfer and a genuine guy he was top drawer. I can't believe its ten years. I'm sure if he was still around he'd have added to his major collection and would still be amongst the worlds best

I remember how shocked I was and saddened at the time, I always fancied Stewart to take the top spot at some stage, till we lost him..RIP.

Met him at the Bell Scottish Open at Gleneagles circa 90 or 91?? Still got his autograph in the programme, seemed a very nice guy... what I do remember is the HUGE "PS" ring he had on his finger

At the same event I got confused between Monty and Brian Marchbank so I must be the only person in the world to have Montys signature on Brian Marchbanks photo in the programme!! :o :o

Me and the Missus were lucky enough to meet the great man and his family in the furniture department at Harrods just before the Open one year.

I recoognised him straightaway even without the plus fours and the cap, walked up to him and said hello, shook his hand and had a chat.....what a really nice guy!!!!
He even tried to talk my missus into buying a £50k dining room suite (yeah right!).

A sad sad loss to golf and mankind!

Monty must not have been able to tell either :D

Payne Stuart was a legend pure and simple I don't think I have ever heard a bad word about him - even though he wore his heart on his sleave and was cocky he never crossed over into arrogance.

He is one Golfer that is still missed my many that remember him for his Personality and character and Sportsmanship he brought with him .

Rest In Peace
