Well the USA have appointed another old warhorse as Captain for 2010. The Eurpoean choice needs to be carefully considered now as this guy plays to win.
He isn't universally popular with the players though, so he may not prove a good choice. When he was vice cap, he wasn't liked at all. Could be another Faldo.
I have hated Pavin from way back when he was a player. Just one of that era of US players that I really hated. Might have been the 'tache but there was just something about him.
Not sure he will be that great a choice. Granted he played on two winning teams but he has never struck me as someone players of his era or the current crop look at as a role model or icon. I think a Woosie or Ollie will command greater resepct from our boys. I think we will have the guys and the will to do the business next time around.
it was a feisty competitor and a great shot maker. detested his attitude at Kiawah island but enjoyed seeing him win the US Open at Shinnacock with a terrific 4 wood shot to the 72nd hole.
we should pick Ollie who will command the players respect.
We have to whip this guy and his teams ass in 2010,I too have hated this guy since his putrid attitude display at Kiawah.God I have hated the guy ever since but you have to admire the way he manages to get the most out of his game and competed with the big boys despite being a total pea shooter
Pavin was always the automatic choice for the States in my opinion. A player of passion and always wore his heart on his sleave, a captain very much in the mould of Azinger. People forget Azinger was not a popular player amongst his fellow professionals when he was a regular on tour, but over time he mellowed and got people onside.
Mr Pavin is the exact same and he does command alot of respect. I think its a great choice for the Yanks.
On this side of the pond, if Sandy Lyle is not given the nod then its a bloomin disgrace, but I suppose thats a debate for another thread!
The biggest problem I can see here is with Corey Pavin being so little and Celtic Manor being so boggy, there is the distinct chance he might disappear in all the mud
