I said a couple of weeks back that I would pick him over Westwood for the Ryder Cup as he was showing form......shame that didn't happen and also a shame I didn't back my thoughts with a bet on him!

Well done Paul, good to see him back where he belongs. He's too good a player to be not competing.

He really needed to show this form about 3-4 months ago and then maintain it..would have been a very good bet for a pick.
Just think he left it a bit late.
Very good to see him back on top though...

No more snowboarding for him

Never really warmed to Paul Casey

Hits a cracking golf ball and superb putter just never seem to make full use of his talents.

Good to see him back as a winner after far too long not being competitive! Would have been just the sort of 'aggressive brat' for the RC had he come into form (and kept it) a couple of months ago.

Tournament was missing several of the top dogs, but still needed good scores to win it. Andy Sullivan seems to show really well when the 'creme' are away too - and might have an even more dangerous adventure than snowboarding having won a trip to space! Pepperell another with 4 rounds in the 60s. Disappointing final round for Wattel and Ramsey - from memory, not for the first time this year! Larrazabel back with more 'sting' and Dyson making sure it's his scores that feature, rather than other areas!

Taking nothing away from the win today, very well deserved. But would argue that his form over the last 3 months has been outstanding,

US open 56th
Irish Open 33rd
BMW International 22nd
Scottish Open 14th
The Open 47th
USPGA 94th

Before today he was 94th on the RTD with 217722 in winnings.

nowhere near a pick , but thats Casey, he will win one, then do rock all for the next 2 years

Good to see him win and I hope he keeps it up

Who said it had been outstanding?

Let's not forget that this man was capable enough to get to world number 3 a few years ago.

I would certainly have picked him ahead of certainly Westwood and possibly the two others.

Westwood was capable enough to get to number 1 if you're using that argument and there's no way you pick Casey over Gallacher if you're using the form argument.

Poulter or Casey? Can't see many folk going for Casey in a Ryder Cup.

Yet his form when the picks were being made was nowhere near the other three and was nowhere near in the rankings

Didn't Westwood get to number one in the world

Can't see any justification to have him picked ahead of the three picked and then ahead of players like Donald , Ramsey and Luiten.

Over the last 2 months he is in better form than Westwood.

He aint been picked but he'll feature for Europe again of that I have no doubt.

Is he ? Based on ?

Both have had some iffy results we Westwood certainly having better results in the last major and the WGC in the two months running up to the picks

Casey didn't really have any significant results in that period and hasn't got the experience that Westwood has which was one of the main reasons why he was picked.

Casey started to get back to better form after his win in Ireland last year, it's been a bit mixed this season, but, he's still playing well enough that a few good weeks could make all the difference. Good to get another win under his belt. He's also a good one to see being interviewed, he tells it like it is.

Given that Westwood was #1 not long ago, Poulter would be the 1st name on any Ryder Cup list and Gallacher is both 'in form' and performs well at Gleneagles, it's possibly just as well that McGinley is Captain rather than you or me! Westwood was/is a bit of a risk/surprise (Casey would have been a bigger one!), but there's more to the team than just performance over the year, which is what the Captain's picks are about!

Good result from Casey and personally I am pleased he's playing a lot more on the European tour rather than in the US. I enjoy watching him play. However I have heard from two separate sources that he hasn't always been a team player in the RC locker room. Wonder if that came into the equation

I heard the same story but I can't remember where i heard it.

I like Casey and good to see him back. Hopefully he can build on this over the rest of the season and into next.

Disagree about the Ryder Cup though, too little too late.

The form guy who's missing out on the RC would have been in the other team.... Billy Horschel!! I'd love to see him play in the Ryder Cup, can you imagine what he'd be like?

You don't half knock a lot of people for no reason.
You must also know some people in high places around the Ryder cup to be savvy to
that kind of information.

Westwoods Ryder Cup record and experience will have got him that ticket, he may not be on form but he's a character and a leader, and since this is a team game, even if he's not playing well, he may get a couple of points just by being there to lean on in the foursomes/fourball.
