Paul Casey - good job!

Enjoyed watching the end of the Houston tournament last night. Casey played well in Birkdale-like winds to win in a play-off.

Quite satisfying to hear the disappointment in the commentators voices when their man JB Holmes dunked his drive in the water on the 1st play off hole. They then proceeded to explain that him having to wait 2hrs+ from finishing was the reason despite Holmes having been on the range warming up for at least an hour! They then proceeded to claim Casey as one of theirs as he's lived in Arizona for a while!

Sensible play from Casey, made the correct decisions at the right time. Holmes looks like he should be playing baseball rather than golf, not a pretty golf swing but brutally strong.

I think this win could do a lot for him, pick of the Brits at the moment. Should fare well at Augusta.

I agree entirely, and also noticed the change in the tone of the commentators as the play off hole was completed. At the beginning they were saying how JB has to be favorite etc etc he has been keeping warm, didn't bogey the last to prevent certain victory- and then he was clearly disadvantaged because he had to wait 2 hours. It was quite comical.

Casey thoroughly deserved the win though, I am just scared that with all the hype this will bring for the masters he will end up having a disappointing tournament.

He was a captains pick for the Ryder cup, and you are right he does now miss out on the Masters. Winning last night was his only chance.

I suppose it just goes to show there is no point being long if your not straight, from what I have seen of the PGA tour this year there are too many occasions where accuracy lets him down. Another interesting fact that was mentioned last night is that he is not even in the top 10 or 15 in the driving distance stats this year as others (I know Villegas for one) are actually as long if not longer- with the added bonus of accuracy!

Casey was on the 14th when i switched off for the evening but i knew he was in with a great chance.

His par from against the lip of that bunker on the par 3 was unbelievable. To get up and down from that position just shows how good the pro's are.

Think a Ryder Cupper gets an invite to the other US majors (and possibly The Open) but it does not qualify you for the Masters.

Quite correct in this instance

Despite Casey coming across as a fairly cocky individual generally you could see how nervous he was, written all over his face. Holmes looked just as bad.

Shows how big a deal it is to win over there, it really is a step up to the PGA Tour for our guys. Monty couldn't do it and I think Donald and Casey and Darren Clarke (WGC matchplay in 2000 co-sanctioned by PGA tour) are the only Brits to have done it since the Faldo/Lyle/Woosnam era. I remember D Clarke going close again at Hilton Head 3 or 4 years ago but he couldn't quite make it.

Good to see some tough conditions too, Texas is famous for it's wind (well George Dubbya comes from there! ;)).

I'm sure they mentioned Westwood winning over there on Setanta last night ;)

Its always good to see the jingoistic commentators splutter into their mikes as a "foreign" interloper sneaks in to win the prize. Even if Holmes had finished at the same time as Casey they'd have found an excuse for him dunking his drive.
