This is possibly a slightly dodgy first thread to post, especially since joining (well, re-joining) this forum I have possibly bored people with the loss of my clubs in a burglary. I find myself, however, pathetically excited that first thing tomorrow I'm off to spend a ridiculous amount of money (well, ridiculous for me) on the replacements. :D

I'm off to the Pro-shop where all the gear that was pinched came from to spend some considerable time on the launch monitor or whatever it's called and hope to come away a happy bunny with some clubs ordered (not to mention a trolley and a bag.)

I do have one question though. Given my H/C, might it be better not to replace everything (like the 60* wedge I could never use properly) and think about adding later on? There might then be a bit of money for lessons/green fees. Thoughts anyone?

Mate, do what ever you want and enjoy it , I look forward to hearing how it went and what you ended up with.

If you think you did not play the 60* or other clubs well then nothing wrong with adding at a later date. As said just enjoy and make the most of it.

If you think you need then get it if money allows but get the main things 1st putter, irons and woods. Get the other stuff like you said bag, trolley and accessories needed. If you can't just get it later like midnight said.

Nothing wrong with enjoying the fitting process (well hitting it on a monitor) and trying new stuff so have fun. Personally I wouldn't use a 60 degree LW as it costs me more shots than it saves so not worth it. However that's more about my flaky short game

In your shoes I would seek plenty of advice from your pro, don't rule out any clubs until you have tried them and look to build a bag suitable for the type of course(s) that you play.

Just one question though.....has the insurance company given you money up front? Usually they pay the pro direct or you submit the invoice so not sure how you might have money left over for lessons?

Nothing pathetic about it. I hardly slept the night before my Titleist fitting, I was like a kid at Christmas. Enjoy it and let us know what you end up with

what degree gap wedge, sand wedge you need will start from working from what degree your PW is 7 how far you hit it on average with a 'comfortable' repeated action.

would give the 60º a miss though, until you get the other wedges flying good.

Paid up front - it's in the bank! They asked for proof of purchase and confirmation from a pro-shop on the likely cost to replace new-for-old, as near like-for-like as possible. That with a crime number, covering letter and a photo of the damage to the garage door was enough. Blinder! Esp as the cost to replace is obviously somewhat higher than the original purchase cost (e.g. - the stuff bought in sales.)

...don't store the new sticks in the garage .......

as well as them coming back .... if garage not heated & you have near to or freezing temps ... it hardens & damages the adhesive. over time the heads start loosing from the shafts (you see gaps at the ferules)

Enjoy your time buying and fitting. The high you will have tomorrow is only equalled by the low you had when discovering Mr scrote had robbed you in the first place.

hope it all goes well.

SWMBO and I have had that conversation already... New clubs - all the kit - will live in the house from now on.

You see - there's so much to learn! Now if there's any mention of the kit going in the garage I can demand her laptop has to act as a duvet... ;)

Just used this info to great effect. The wife will let me put my new clubs in the cubbyhole now 😃

Well, just back from work so here we go...

Fantastic morning! :D Hit I don't know how many balls with what seemed like an unending series of irons, putters, fairway woods and drivers.

Turns out that my old putter (Benross SRII?) is just as good as anything else I hit, so goes back in the (new) bag!

I won't bore you with a long description of everything I hit, but the short story is that I am awaiting delivery of a 4-SW set of Cobra Fly-Z (extra inch on the shaft and 1* change in the lie), and have Driver, 3W & 5W Yonex Z-Force - all regular shafts. Tried Stiff shafts but got better out of the regulars. Was very close between the Yonex driver and a Cobra Bio Cell. Nothing in it with the good shots - in the end it was the bad shots going better off the Yonex that did it. Not necessarily scientific, but made sense to me.

I have today wielded clubs made by Titleist, Ping, Callaway, Taylormade, Nike and Mizuno. In a number of cases both last year's offering as well as this year's. Like a kid in a sweet shop, a puppy in the park, a pig in... I had a good day!
