If you had an out 2 in swingpath and an open clubface face at impact. Would you tackle the path issue or the face issue first? And why?

I'd strip both back and attack it now before it ruined a season.

Both problems could be destructive depending on the degree of error ie 1* out to in verses 10* out to in....

Nothing wrong with an open club face if it is not too extreme and the swing path is appropriate, but an out to in swing path is rarely good and often very bad, so fix that first. If you end up hitting a push fade for a while, no big deal. You can play with that.

There's no point doing one at a time because whichever you correct the other will still lead to bad shots and forcing you to make a correction in another area to get the ball going to your target.

If the ball is already going on target then why change at all

I have an in to out with a closed club head. I am working on both but if I were to pick one I would say face. 80% of the first part of the ball flight is dictated by the face. I can play with a face I can control and I want to play.

Is the right answer..........at least according to my coach

Sort the swing path out, nothing wrong with hitting the ball with an open face. If you swing straight down the line with a slightly open face then you will be hitting a nice fade. But if you tackle the clubface and get it straight to the swingpath you are going to start hitting a big pull.

Big pull or a nice fade, I know which one I would prefer.

I thought the initial ball flight was dictated by the relation of the clubface to swing path at impact, not just the clubface alone.

That is my understanding too but I believe the lions share of face and path for the initial part of the flight is face angle. Happy to be corrected.

Tell you what, you get that club face closer to square without forcing it and I'll bet the path will follow.

Without sounding the pesimist. The OP could, arguabley, get the club face more square with a change of grip. That's not going to affect the clubs path (... I wouldn't have thought).
