Just been watching Nichlaus's '86 Masters win with HID, and it got me reminiscing about past winners for the Open and the Masters, and how far back I could remember.
I vaguely remember one of Trevino's wins, '71 or '72 but I remember each one since, albeit I need the list of winners to be able to say, "ah yes, I remember Weiskopf winning in '73. I remember him/them winning but not always the year. I remember Player in '74, and with a bit of paper I could list pretty much every one after that. Got Hamilton and Curtis the wrong way round.
My Masters memories aren't as good, pretty sketchy really. But I do remember Jack's win in '86. What a Championship!
And then I got to remembering what clubs/bag I had around the time of some of the winners. I had a red leather Slazenger golf bag in the early '70's, that got very heavy when wet. The irons were Slazenger blades, replaced in '74 by Wilson Blue Ridge. I got a Titliest Persimmon driver around that time. Gorgeous looking club, but the head size was something like today's 3/5 wood. Still got it somewhere - God its difficult to hit. And the ball of choice for me back then was the Dunlop 65, 1.62" small ball.
I'm definitely getting old...
