Which do you prefer to play and why?

I myself prefer a parkland because they seem to be more developed and not as barren as some links courses.

I prefer looking at parkland (I think), but have not played enough links golf to really express an opinion either way. Heathland is cool too. And crazy golf.

Whilst I love the challenge of the wind and the unpredicatbility of the bounce on links courses my golf has rarely been at a level to play them in a competitive manner. They are great as a one-off treat but I prefer the test of a parkland track which is more suited to my scatter gun golf

i enjoy playing both styles of course but have gone for the parkland because there is not a better feeling in the world than hitting a ball into a green with anything from a 6 iron to lob wedge and seeing it stop, rather than playing bump and run all the time.
but both do provide different challenges.

I guess that most on here play Parkland courses, so maybe biased towards that.

I guess it's like asking if we prefer blondes or brunettes. I've never been out with a blonde, (not likely to as I don't think HID would approve!), but I doubt if hair colour has a lot to do with anything anyhow.

Mind you I'd like to try the other.

I mean the links courses (just in case the Mrs reads this at some point!) ;)

Unfortunately I'm yet to play a links course, scandalous I know but in Derby we struggle to find seaside conditions!!

So far I am the only one to opt for Links but it has to be a genuine traditional links as I have played some courses lately that have been God awful. I love the trying wind and the skiffy wee divot you get when you pure one on a links course. There is no better feeling than flushing a 5 iron on a links and seeing the egg yolk size divot and not the Celtic scarf you dig up on a parkland course.

I agrre with Madandra, we have some really great Links courses in West Lancs. Simply being able play all year round gives the seaside tracks an advantage. Shoes that are dry and mud free after a round in January. Have to spend half an hour cleaning kit in Winter before I HID lets me in the house.

I agree that they are generally a lot windier but I like to think of it as a challenge.

only played a links course once and that before I played golf so had no way to appreciate what it was. I dread to think we could lose them before I get my chance to play one for real. Links though has the romance of The Open to back it up.

I have played some decent and well thought out parkland courses but also some that should go back under the plough.

I have played both and must admit that some of the "so called links courses" are not links but a combination of links and heathland.......as to which I prefer to play, you have to play them differently...but there is nothing more pleasing than running a ball in from 60 feet and watching it stop close to the hole...I have chosen to the links course because after all thats were golf started ..........

Many bumps and humps.
its the way to play real golf a high shot lets it bounce any which way.
parkland allows a ball to roll with the lie whereas links makes it random. this allows for a more intresting game.
when i go back to angus always try and play links and parkland.

Although I am a member at a parkland course, it's links golf that I love to play. A great test of character and skill. Being only 25 mins away from East Lothian means I do get to play a fair bit of links golf over the year.
