Travelling up to Newcastle on Saturday for the rugby and wondered if there's any Geordie's on here who can advise on car parking in the vicinity of St James Park.

There's a couple of car parks around st james' but I imagine they'll be busy. There's loads of parking around the city centre and the ground is only a few minutes walk from almost everywhere

We used the park and ride just off the A1 last time we went up there

If u get there early enough and drive around you might get parked in 1 of the nearby residential area streets.......around the Stanhope street area, or numerous city centre car parks, multi storey car parks, etc......some can be pricey

Only park and ride that I know of that is just off the A1 would be at Durham, next to Ramside Hall.....??.....!!!

A long way from st James park and Newcastle city centre.

Is it Great Park ? Took about 15/20 mins to get to the centre

The nearest is probably the multistory at the Royal Victoria Infirmary ("RVI") Or they're is a multistory at the Haymarket, which continues onto the roof of John Lewis. Eldon Garden is also close & easily accessible from the A1. None is cheap, but I wouldn't be parking on the street in the vicinity of St. J P if I were you!

To be fair Phil I forgot they had 1 there, it's quite new.
But it's a bit out the way from the ground.
The multi storey on Stowell street will be nearest, next to aspers and the gate.
No idea of pricing, but most are about the same.
Plenty parking on Claremont road too, if there early enough and don't mind 10mins walk.

Or pick a Metro Station on your route in and jump off at St James Park, Traffic can be a nightmare getting in or out of Newcastle

Yep, this is the one...

Stay in the RH lane at Washington services and onto the A194. Carry on to the big roundabout at the end and turn left onto the A184. Again carry on to the roundabout and turn left, Heworth Metro should be on your right now which has a large car park and easy 10 minute Metro ride into town. That would the smart play, saves with the hassle of town traffic and trying to find a parking space which can be a nightmare on the best of Saturdays even without a match on.
You could maybe try parking in The Swan pub car park across from Heworth Metro to save a couple of bob or there's loads of streets just around the corner where you could park up, Felling Metro just up the road has a small car park as well, not sure what the charges are though.

PS. just get off at Central Station and walk up from there, it's only 5-10 mins walk to the stadium.

You've got:-

Multi-storey at the RVI, fills up quickly as Hospital visiting is 14:00 to 16:00hrs
Parking down Richardson Road, next to the RVI, not a cat in hells chance of getting a space there.
Then there's parking off Leazes lane and at the Strawberry, both of which will fill up quickly
There's parking off Barrack road right next door to St James, but again that will fill up quickly.
There are two Multi Storeys on Stowell street, the entrances are right next door to each other, the NCP is First and goes up, the Gate is next and goes down, both are popular with shoppers as they are very central.
You've got the circular multi-storey off Percy Street, again popular with shoppers as once parked you are seconds from Eldon Square Shopping.
Small amount of Parking of Durant Road, get parked here and you have a little walk to St James, bonus is when you come to leave you're not far from the central motorway.
and there is a multi-storey on John Dobson Street, as above for Durant road.

as well as off street parking, the ones above are the closest to St James, there are others if you do not mind walking

One Multi-Storey you may find a space is the one off Railway Street, behind the Jury's Inn Hotel, very close to the Centre for Life, here's a link for Google Maps This one may be your best bet, as when you leave, you're right next to the Redheugh bridge and a direct route back to the A1.

If possible I would avoid the A1 if coming North and come up the A19 at Dishforth , 2 sets of major roadworks on A1 after A19 junction, A19 currently clear of roadworks, stay on A19 till A184, come in to Newcastle on A184 you will have choice of Heworth Metro or City centre parking as suggested

The A1 is still much faster than the A19 even with all the roadworks, I do that route most days with my job and I'd never consider the A19 unless the A1 is closed or a bad jam etc.

When leaving, avoid the A1 at the metrocentre through to the angel of the north, traffic leaving the metrocenter backs up the A1 for that stretch something chronic, head towards Birtley and join the A1 there.
