So HID and I decided to test run her new car to Brighton for the day. We got one of those green, no tax and hardly any insurance jap cars and poodled of from deepest Kent to Brighton for the day. The petrol cost considerably less than the £20 to park for 5 hours! Then I see a headline in the local rag that the Council there made £7.6m on parking fees - not from my contributions in future!

It's a nightmare to park anywhere in Brighton! I suspect you were in one of the Multi-storeys - always expensive. Suppose you have to pay for "easy access" to shops etc.

Now that the local Council is the Green Party the charges will more than likely rise even further!

Golfmmad.

Found a lot of the south coast towns expensive to park in. I guess not surprising as much of the traffic will be day trippers. I guess you get permits if you live or work in the town. £20 for a multi story sounds a bit rich though

Churchill Square car parks 1&2

£2 min charge, then £1 an hour.

Two minutes away, Russell Rd Car Park, £4 an hour.

You park wherever you like.

Wish I had known. Trouble is that you are at the barrier before you see the charges and its hellishly difficult to reverse out.

I once fell for it. I had a queue behind me, so I drove in and straight out within a minute, and I didn't get charged.

Dunno if I was lucky, or if that is the norm.
