Took my six year old son to London today. First time he's ever been to the big smoke. Spent most of the day at the Natural History Museum but on the way home stopped off to see the sights at Westminster. One of those days that made me incredibly grateful to be a parent. So much fun on both sides just wonderful.

Now planning our next adventure and wondered if you'd like to share something you've done with your kids that gave you a barrel load of happiness...

I won't steal any of your ideas...honest ;)

We took our daughter to Disney in Orlando when she was 4 and 9. Brilliant holidays, though she did make me test all the rides first to see if they were suitable. I hate roller coasters.:( I am amazed at the age of 20 she still remembers so much from each holiday.

Taking my lad to play the St Andrews Old Course for his 16th birthday, and then Canoustie for his 17th.

I didn't go myself but my daughters face when she got home from the 1D gig at Sunderland last year was worth her weight in gold.
Her first proper big outdoor gig and it was to see her idols, she was right at the front as well.
Job done

Taking my little nephew to Duxford. He still loves going and even I still love it despite going dozens of times

If your going to go to Paris and Orlando make sure you go to Paris 1st!

We went to Orlando and honeymoon it's a great holiday just an expensive one these days. Been to Paris 3 times with our 5 year old and off again this year. We can't justify spending the extra at his age he gets to meet all the characters pics an autographs all the rises he wants and all for about 20% of the cost.

Brilliant mate, enjoy it whatever you's do, you'll never get these times back.

LMAO!

Rich I'm interested to know if it's worth going to Orlando over Paris? How much better is the full fat version?
My daughter went to Disney in France. She played in a band there, but we didn't go with her. She didn't like it that much, but perhaps it was because she was older, 14 I think from memory.

Agree that if you intended to do both at some time, start in Paris. We went in October to Orlando, in the days when you could take kids out of school. One week out of school and one week half term. There were no queues which made a huge difference. The weather was great as well, mid/high 70's. Queues and heat with a small one would not be fun.

We may be going back for my daughters 21st, and fortunately she now goes on roller coasters without dad.;)

Yup

Just this minute managed to get my two and a half year old girl down to sleep.

Not sure if it's just teething, but she was not having any of it tonight. She's always been a cracking wee thing at bed time, but has been screaming the house down since about 9 tonight.

A wee glass of milk and honey and some calpol and I managed to stop the crying. Put her Down but still started crying again.

Back down stairs. Cuddles on the couch whilst watching twinkle twinkle little star on my phone.

All is soon forgiven when her little voice wearily stars whispering the words and she gives me a big smile.

The house has returned to normality.

Finally got to bed.

Shame I am up in 4 hours to walk the dog before work.

Am i even slightly peeved?

Nah.

She's the Apple of my eye and the sweetest little thing going.

I think I'll let her have one bad night

Mind you. Her mum can get her next time she wakes up!!

I let her GTA 5 on her PS3 in her bedroom which is great as she really enjoys it and it gives me some peace and quiet. She is 9.

On a more serious note not telling her where we were going on holiday then waking her up at 5am, asking her where in the world she would like to go that day. She said Disney in Florida and New York and I said, that's lucky as you are going there now. And off we went.

Have also got her 1D concert tickets for later this year and have not told her about that. So assuming there are still some left in the band by then that will be great as I will tell her on the day as well.

We've done a couple of 'london' things as we're only 90 mins away by train.

A couple of years ago we got some merlin cards (own Mdm Tussawds / London eye / sealife / etc etc) and had a week doing london stuff also incl museums / cutty sark / covent gdn etc etc.

Also, recently my wife discovered some of the museums do 'sleep-overs'. Her and my daughter recently went to science museum (cheapest london hotel if nothing else!) which was great, are going to Royal Albert hall soon and my son wants to do N.Hist museum althoguh I think he will bottle (only 3!) nearer the time + think there is min age so haven't looked into that one yet.

Tiger - I have done both. Paris is a great introduction to Disney and better when they are younger as it is a slightly smaller site. I would suggest waiting until your kids are 8-9 before going to Orlando. They can be long days and I saw lots of crying kids, bedraggled parents etc as they tried to cram in too much stuff into each day. The evening fireworks and light shows at Disney in Orlando are spectacular and worth going to but lots of little kids were too wiped to enjoy those when I was there.

Paris is great still, but Orlando is better. Don't forget Universal either which is excellent. Without a doubt Orlando was the best holiday we have ever done, the faces of your kids and your own just smile the whole time.

A further answer to the original question. If your kids liked Harry Potter then take them to the Harry Potter Studios. Great day out, brilliant exhibition. Mine were chased by Death Eaters and their faces were a picture.

Thanks for the advice. They are quite young so I'm thinking Euro disney later this year (if I get my bonus) and then Orlando when the youngest is 8/9
