So I went for my lesson this morning but turns out the one pro who was giving me my lessons had left, not sure why, but there you go.

So the head pro is taking over my lessons now. I couldn't have my lesson this morning but he gave me some free range tokens to use instead and I rebooked for next weekend. I hit a couple of range tokens and went on to play the Par 3 course.

I was playing my irons really well on the Par 3 this morning! I hit 7 out of the 9 greens from the tee, something I've never done before, I've never even done 2 out of the 9 before! So was really really chuffed with myself!

But my putting was horrendous!!!!

I was taking almost 3 - 4 putts on each hole. I only Par'd 1 hole.

Good thing my lesson next weekend is on Putting and Pitching, so I'll get to some proper pointers in how to line up a swing a putter properly. Oddly though, putting is usually my strong point.

Onwards and upwards, my iron play has increased dramatically, hope now that it does't regress from here as I'm really happy with it, obviously it can always get better and I want it to, just as long as it doesn't go down.

Sometimes hitting more greens can lead to more 3 putts! This sounds daft but if you hit a tee shot that finishes in the greenside rough, the chances are you'll chip onto the green and take no more than 2 putts. Whereas you might hit a marginally better shot that is not a lot closer but finishes on the green but nevertheless leaves you a long first putt.

Of those 7 greens that you hit, how many do you think were inside 25 feet?

Well done on hitting the greens, but only making par twice from there will kill you on a real course. Get on the putting green and put (no pun intended) in the practice.

Hitting 7 from 9 greens is top stuff no matter how long the par 3's were. that putting was truly atrocious though.

Firm believer that it should be easier to fix dodgey putting than complete swing faults.

Putting can be a pain, four holes on the trot yesterday I had birdie putts and bogeyed each one. You just need to keep practising, as do I.

They're really short, the longest whole is I think 140yds, with most being around 115yds.

I do need to spend more time practicing my putting, I tend to usually think, nah I'll be OK. But today showed me different, will add putting into my practice regime at the range next time I go, which will hopefully be tomorrow.

What do you play off if you don't mind me asking? hitting 7 from 9 at those distances is not to be sniffed at. I would take that any day.

If you can repeat that out of the main course you will be doing well.

I used to play the par 3 course a lot at my old club. really good practice.

I don't have a handicap as of yet. Planning to get one done when I join a club, just trying to find one that can be fit around my needs. I think I've found one though. Chestfield Golf Club in Whitstable, might look at joining them on one of their flexi memberships.

One thing that I really really really need to learn on a golf course is to slow down! I tend to always think that faster play is better and that usually proves to be a disaster for me, I need to just slow it down.

Like today I was speeding through my putts trying to get to the next hole. Next time though, I'll slow it down. Hmmm, I've said that before lol

Golf is such a frustrating game. I played this morning and could not find my swing at all - stinking the course out in the process.

Then on 13 remembered something a friend had said about pitching. A very simple thing involving just one thought. Applied it with a nothing to lose mindset and my pitching was transformed.

Played the last 6 striking all my irons better than I had done for months.

This game does my head sometimes.

I played 13 holes today and didn't take the putter out of my bag. Just chipped around every green until the 4 ball behind caught up then I moved on.

Can't stand putting on winter greens. Bores the life out of me. I will get back into it in a month or so when the greens dry out and get back up to speed.

Rubbish today

Front 9 was 1 under gross

Steady back until dropped 5 shots in the last 5 holes !!

Like throwing darts if your irons are on. Sounds like you've been doing it for quite some time now.

Yeah I think they know I'm looking at other irons so trying to persuade me to stick with old faithfulls

Overall enjoying my play at the moment so looking forward to hopefully getting low into Cat1 this year

Hope you achieve that then. Noticed you've put quite a number of under par 9s on the card. just about keeping those blow up holes at bay. easier said than done.

Yeah couple of the back nine holes are being punishing - raised greens with balls spinning off being a regular occurrence at the moment and the holes are a bit exposed to wind

It's finding that way to play the high shot ( have a high ball flight ) in the wind

But looking forward to a couple cracking months of some forum meets
