Is anybody watching it?

It disgusts me that people like this exist. I wish that we could bypass the legal system and deal with these people ourselves!!!

I'm a staff nurse working within mental health and this is the type of stuff I have nightmares about. I'd hate to think I would ever work in a place where this happened.

The worst thing is I don't think this is an isolated occurrence. With the trend moving towards lower staffing levels, lower levels of professional staff with less accountability, and lower levels of pay the signs aren't good.

You just need to look around and see people applying for jobs in care homes who only want the pay-cheque. The fact most of these jobs are minimum wage puts of the more skilled and dedicated workers who set their sights a little higher.

Why is this? Radio 4 this am claimed that the home was getting "£3000 a week" !!!!! for each person they looked after. :D

Simple - these care homes are a business and run for Profit. Care delivery (or lack of in this case) is a service provision aimed at generating profit.

BTW I'm a nurse manager with over 20 years of experience working in NHS mental health - this is the most terrible example of abuse I have witnessed, it really does make me sick and distraught for the suffering these poor people have endured. Shocking - absolutely shocking.

I, because of this subject postings, have just watched this on iplayer or should I saw watched as much as I could stomach!

I am in my own office having my lunch and have been reduced to tears!!

Right now my feelings are such that the natural law is not correct for this peop..animals - if the patients were mine..wait a minute they are mine and yours, I would love to dish out my own law!!

A five iron right up the jacksy until that tattoed monsters eyeballs stuck out and he was the one doing the crying!

That my friends, is how I visualise Bedlam to have been - we have come a long way since then....maybe not?

The owners should be in court, found guilty and ALL their profits should be directed to Mencap or some such charity ... making millions for abusing children in their care ... lock them up along with 'sympathic' prisoners.

I couldn't watch it, had to turn off after 60 seconds. It's almost worse than doing it to children, some of them had mental ages of 4 (the victims that is, although maybe the abusers have as well).

Let's hope they get sent down and the living crap kicked out of them every day they're inside.

Same as you Colin, had to get the missus to turn it over as I couldn't stomach it. What upsets me most is that I am powerless to do anything about it. Sometimes I wish Panorama would issue some form of call to action so that those moved by these kind of issues feel like they can do something productive about it.

It had the same effect on me as some of the Comic Relief stories you see but at least then I can pick up the phone and make a pledge.

The abuse was disgusting. I've never been so angry watching tv. I'd love a couple of minutes with the tattooed fucker to give him a taste of his own medicine. There is some vile people in the world.

Same here
I couldnt even watch it when the news last night and thsi morning were showing clips
Serious downer
We are supposed to be a civilised society

And you know what - i bet this and similarly bad establishments were all inspected and "quality assured".
"QA" is b****x in whichever industry you put it in as you can pass any audit you want whenever you want. This country and its citizens who need protecting would be much better off if we put some of our taxpayers money into some more undercover journalists. I must admit, Panorama has seriously been going downhill towards the gutter and tabloids in teh past few years but i have to give them and the young journalist some serious credit for their work here

Whoever said we should NEVER privitise care homes for children etc had it spot on. These should NEVER be run for profit.
