So today I took a step away from the dark side! Having cleaned my clubs I decided to take them out naked and let them jiggle around together a little :o It felt quite liberating to not faff about a bit with headcovers although countless times found myself searching high and low for one before remembering I hadn't used them!

So I noticed the black numbering has faded on my irons and non existent on wedges. Also the white line on the bottom groove has all but disappeared. I see threads on here about paint filling, so - what do I use and how?

Cheers

Amanda I use the simplest method of all. Gloss paint of you colour choice and some kitchen paper or toilet paper, that is all you need. Stir the paint or shake it then get a piece of paper and dip it into the paint. Dab this into the offending number then simply fold a clean bit of paper, hold it flat and wipe it over the number. This will remove the excess paint a few more rubs over with the paper will remove all the excess paint and leave the number full of paint and the club clean. Leave it to dry overnight and job done.
Nothing is esier, I have done it like this for years it works every time.

So gloss paint as in for woodwork in the house?

You can use Humbrol, tamiya model paints or use your nail colours if you want to. Other methods is to use cocktail sticks to paint with, use cotton buds to clean excess paint with acetone or nail varnish remover, makes sure you clean the numbers up really well and get all the old paint out, if your using nail colours after it's dry just put a light coat of nail varnish on top to seal it. Above all patience.

I tried some nail varnish but it didn't seem to "stick" so well to the metal so wonder if enamel paints would be more effective? Does nail varnish remover get rid of any overspill on enamel paints?

I used nitro mors to remove every last bit of standerd paint then used a white paint pen on my vokeys covered the full area and left to dry for 3 hours then used a scalpel to scrape the excess off best job I've done on them yet I can post a picture to twitter if anyone would like to see

Give it a go you don't know until you try. If not then Wilkos paint thinner will do, but be careful with it cos ul get high on thinner....

Don't know how successful it would be , but an old trick to fill in the numbers on car gear stick was to rub a coloured wax crayon to fill in the gap and a dry cloth to rub away the excess. Not sure it would work on golf clubs though.

I use Plasti-kote fast dry enamel paint, available from B&Q. I use the paint pots, not the spray. Works a treat, over fill and leave to dry, then use nail polish remover on kitchen paper to wipe off the excess. If you need to remove the old fill first, nitro mores is the stuff to use.

Amanda did you do yours? if so what method and how did it go?

I wasn't sure what the results would be but thought I'd give this a go so I just used acrylic paint using drawboys method to apply and it looks pretty good (bright orange too )
(being acrylic it'll probably come off in a few weeks so I intend to use gloss paint for metal surface's next time)

Also tried nail paint but as mentioned I found it didn't apply smoothly enough
