Few more sleeps to go before heading out stateside for a week of golf. Any packing tips and what to take. Just taking a dozen balls, since I will anyways buy from there..

Also any advice on golf shopping from there that is expensive on this side?

Your clubs? Perhaps your golf shoes, stating the bleedin obvious I know, but you did ask. You could try to pack a decent swing if there's room in your bag as well.

Where are you going? Couple of big golf chains like Edwin Watts, Martin's and Golf Dimensions. Check websites to see what offers they have. Lots of good bargains this time of year as they clear stock for next year's models. Also I wouldn't bother taking balls as there will be bargains to be had out there.

Enjoy!

I am going to Naples, Florida in November and I am planning on taking my clubs, but does anyone know the cost of hiring for a week as it may be an opportunity to try some different weapons?

Every time I play golf in Canada I always rent, usually latest models and in almost perfect condition! Wouldnt dream of taking my clubs if only doing a couple of rounds.

Look at rental prices then work out if its VFM to take your own clubs.

I am taking my own clubs... Flying with Virgin, so clubs go free... have atleast 7-8 rounds scheduled. As much as I like tying out new clubs, I do like having my own clubs (if I can), otherwise it becomes a bit of a practice round as you are always guessing if you can or cant hit some distance..

Disassemble your driver for transit... but don't forget the wrench! Also, if you're checking out prices online, check to see whether you'll be liable for the local sales taxes if you buy gear in a bricks and mortar store... usually adds roughly 10% to the dollar price IIRC.

And if you want to properly fit in, don't forget to bring your lairest pair of "plaid" strides and leave your manners and etiquette at home.
