Hi,
In short I recently had my clubs stolen.
I play about 10 times a year & play off mid 20's.

Are the packaged sets of clubs a good idea or should I look to spend a little more!?

Thoughts please!

i started off with a cheap full set deal as i practiced and worked on my swing. the're not great, i asked my more accomplished playing friends to try them out, and they made everyone of them cringe. there were fine for me as a beginner as i worked on my swing. eventually i replaced my woods with a 2nd hand taylor made set which was a huge step forward, then a howson putter, a step forward again, then replaced the irons with a mizuno set which are fantastic, doing it this way helped me improve my gear/game gradually and not break the bank. but with hindsight, i think i would have started with a quality 2nd hand set and worked from there, i thought a beginner like me would not notice the change in quality but i really did,for example, i can hit my taylor made 3wood 40yds further than the dunlop driver. you gets what you pays i guess, even more so if your already a capable player. regards

they are good for beginners to try out golf ( imo )
if you are going to continue to play regularly i wouldnt recommend a packaged set.
look round on the internet and you can find many deals for all the components of a set cheaply.
sure you will pay a bit more than the cost of a set but you will get a better quality set of clubs in return.
there are some really expensive good quality sets but even these dont add up to the sum of their parts.
sorry to hear you got your clubs stolen but my advice would be to pick up either a bag of good used clubs ( if you want to save some money ) or go on the net and find a set of irons, driver, putter, rescue and 3 woods seperately.

i recently did this for a friend and managed to pick up a few really good deals for everything it came to less than £300 and that included a new bag, full set of irons,driver,3 wood,7 wood, rescue wood, putter and a chipper.....all brand new!
happy hunting :D

I bought a decent set of Graphite Shafts of ebay when I first started in aug06. I decided after 3 months that I could not use them as I found it hard to control my swing.

After visiting my local American Golf the pro there, instead of trying to sell me a expensive set of Wilson clubs (which I was prepared to buy) advised me to purchase a set of Golden Bear clubs designed for beginers. These heavy cavityed back clubs and 3/4/5 iron hybrids have honestly helped my game come on in the last 7 months.

I would definetly recomend seing a pro and getting advise before spending a fortune on any Set of clubs
