My dad has got into golf the last 6 months. He plays with a pensioner society he has joined. His clubs are all from a charity shop. He has alsorts in there. Even some are blades which he said he can't hit them.
Anyway he's asked me to look for a new set for him. Not looking to spend alot. So looking in direct golf book as its close to his house.
Anyone got or used these?

John letters T8 hybrid iron set 3- SW
Haema Hybird iron set 3-SW
John letters swing master complete set
Wilson 1200GE 15 peice set

Or would going American golf be better. This is a set just for the next year or so to see if he sticks with it.

Cheers

I used to have a Wilson complete starter set. Great clubs, got on with them really well. Still have them actually, but they are not up at my grandparents house in Wales for when I play up there. Cant go wrong with them really. I know plenty of people will tell you to get 2nd hand stuff etc but getting everything under one roof in one go like a starter set can be great. The stuff is new and can be just as good in my opinion as much of the 2nd hand sets you can get, so go for it.

Keep an eye on the sale section on here, some cracking 2nd hand sets for sale. I bought some cobra's from a mate for £50 6 months ago which have done me fine so far.

I was on holiday last week and hired a set for a round. Top Flite Tour Edition- complete set including bag can be bought for about £170 new.

Really surprised at how good they were and would recommend them.

My mates got a set of taylor made supersteel irons which is a very good make, but are a few years old (probably more than 5).
He's willing to let you have them for £70 and even on a 2 week sale or return, if you want to try them first.

Him/me also have drivers/hybrids and even 2 bags, so could also do the best part of a full set. All on sale or return, as long as you leave the money with us first. Genuine offer and I'm only in Allerton.

PM me if interested.

T8's are ok...I started with them, but limited...found I could only go so far with them! Must admit the hybrids were superb!

I second that, very good clubs. I still have not found easier to hit hybrids, so much so I still have them in my bag now. The irons I have donated to the Missus. Get him down to DG and try a few sets.

Thanks for the info lads.

There is a place near us http://golfdepot.co.uk/

My dad wants to go there tomorrow to have a look. Anyone been there before?

Looking on their website don't seem that much cheaper.

The Wilson ones they have on there at £189.99 is the set i bought when i started out last year. They are really good and i can hit them as good as any others i've tried. I'd highly recommend them.

Great offer there and I would suggest taking LB up on it.

Better to be spending money on decent 2nd hand gear rather than the all in one package. Not only will you get better quality clubs you will at least have some re-sale value in them if your father doesn't get into the game and doesn't want to continue. You will struggle to sell the package sets if this is the case.
