Just returned from our annual "Captain's Trip" and the Vice Captain (who's a good mate) is considering venues for next year including Owston Hall. I've been to most "Golf Hotel and Spa" type places across the north of England but not this one. Would be interested in any opinions good/bad on the quality of both the Hotel and the golf course.
Thanks in advance.

Haven't stayed at the hotel so can't help you on that one, played it last year and was really disappointed, might have played it on a bad day but it felt overplayed, one green had a branch in the hole as the flag had gone missing, if I remember you had to take a rake from the pro shop and carry it round with you. The course layout wasn't too bad and it's quite easy walking.

Can't say I would go back, I know your golf travel were doing deals for £59 stay and play so that's going to bring in masses of groups.

Played and stayed here before okish if lads ain't bothered about the course not the best layout couple holes where you can bomb it any where!!!!!!
Wouldn't rush back to be honest

Live in Donny, used to be a member at owston. Hotel is nice enough with decent bar area and good food but pricey, although there's a great indian restaurant 10 mins away!

Course is an ok layout, close to 7000 yards from the tips if you like a challenge and has good quality fairways. Greens are quite slow and not great quality. Bunkers usually average and each group is asked to take a rake with them. Overall I would consider it an equivalent standard to a good municipal but no better than that. If you get two rounds and a stay for 59 quid it is good value but you won't come away feeling that you've played a memorable track.

I haven't played Owston Hall as I've heard bad reports. Hickelton (between Doncaster & Barnsley) is a nice course. Quite challenging.

that hill is the biggest challenge!!! knackering!! Hicky gets my vote for nicest course close to us, along with Wortley.

Only played Wortley a couple of times,it is a nice course.
Woolley Park (between Barnsley & Wakefield) is worth a visit if it's not too far.

Played Woolley years ago when it first opened - cant really remember much about it though.

Never played Tankersly though - that's apparently very nice too.
