Played with a guy yesterday who had an oversized grip on his putter. Designed for two thumbs but he gripped as normal. I've been considering getting one for a while and it felt very comfortable. Does anyone use an oversized grip and have one they would recommend. I have a preference for tackiness. Cheers

I have a feel-tex grip, oversize but not as large as a 2 thumb. Find it really comfortable And it takes my wrists out of the stroke.
Would Defo recommend

I'm sure they work for some but to me they just look daft...
And in the same vein as belly/broomhandles, isn't it just masking a deficiency in what is a pretty straightforward action..?

I agree with Imurg mate, they really do look a bit silly,no? Your lovely Scotty would cry if you put one of those awful things on it! :D :D :D

oi, nowt wrong with belly putters ;)

one of my playing partners had a two thumb grip but he lacked a lot of feel, he recently tried an oddysey 2 ball blade with standard grip and its now permanently in his bag... nuff said

I guess its a case of what works for you, as Deke says that Scotty would not like having one of them on it tho, get a cheapo putter and give me the scotty, it will be respected and looked after ;)

Wouldn't necessarily go that big but I do have large hands and a larger grip would be more comfortable and probably improve my short range putting. And G1BBO hands off Scotty's going nowhere ;)

I wanted a bigger grip, but not one of those monstrous things (i have big hands too). I just stanley knifed a nice straight line down the spine of the grip, removed it, added 3 layers of fresh tape, replaced grip, and neatly filled the spine with black silicone. Perfect now. It's also a nice cheap way of messing about with grip sizes until you find what you like. You can then replace with a new one at that size

Tiger to be honest I'd get a putting lesson rather than muck about with differing grip sizes. I've been reading the blog and the issue really isn't about the equipment but the fundamentals of hitting it and getting it in the hole. I had a putting lesson a while back and it was a revelation. Get the basic set up right and the correct action (Uncle Bob and his V-Easy will help that) and it makes it a lot easier. I was aiming right with my shoulders and left with my hips and feet and wondering why I couldn't get a consistant stroke

Homer what are you on about? My putting is pretty solid and I am happy with it. Occasionally I miss one left or right but everyone does that. It's a comfort thing and having held a thicker grip on Saturday I think I'd like one. Importantly the guy whose grip I tried answered a key question. Did it change your putting in anyway? He said no and that was the answer I was looking for

Tiger, I have one of these (blue one) and my putting is definately coming on with it.

I did look at those and liked the sound of them. Are they a two thumb grip or just oversized?
Oversized, not just as thick as a two thumb.

Final questions Brendy I promise. Do you use a standard grip to putt? Do they clean well and stay tacky? Cheers T
Tiger, I use a non overlapping almost baseball grip only I still have my thumbs pointing down the shaft, left above right. The putter is tacky, 4 months old, maybe more and hasnt needed cleaning once.

It isnt a horrible grip to be honest, yes its thicker than standard but is only noticeably larger because of the colour. Id say if it was black, most would not even notice as it isnt a two thumb putter. Go for it I say, for the sake of 12 quid or so.

Hi,
Have one on a couple of putter but have gone back to a standard grip i'd say they are great for anyone who is a bit wristy but do take out all the feel.
