I have fought on "over the top" move in my downswing for all my golf life.

I manifests itself strangely though

On some swings , I get to the top and sometimes nod my head forward to start the downswing - this has the effect of tilting the clubhead upwards and then a slight out to in path, but I do seem to re route the club during the downswing to a better path.

On occasional other swings I throw the right shoulder which is the traditional slicers swing path, but again get a re route on the downswing as mentioned earlier.

My swing would improve if I could irradicate these moves.

Has anyone got any tips to try because the 90% of times that I don't go OTT I hit really well

Don't Utube have a parental guidence policy for video nasties??

I dont go OTT often Bob and at the range I tend to stop at the top as Murph suggests which does help. I was just wondering if anyone has any other ideas. I must get my swing video'd by the Pro and let you have a look.

I play off 11.5 and my stock iron shot is a gentle fade, although like others here, I hit my driver 325 yards all the time (lol) I hit 150 yards with a 7 iron so the game is not too shabby

Pause at the top. It gives you time to get gathered, and get it right.

Pause at the top only works if
a) you are relaxed and not tense (otehrwise the initial move backto the ball will probably be over teh top from the outset)
b) you use the "pause" to drop the right elbow into into your side above your hip (to generate the correct inside to out swing path)

If you dont manage the latter (often termed by various authors as the "magic move" or similar) then you can actually do more harm than good in losing all the lag energy that you built up in the backswing.

Just practice the right elbow into the side move over and over - you dont need a club , you can do it anywhere

A couple of things that have helped me to sort this out over the last few weeks:

Keep your spine angle tilted slightly away from the target and don't change it during the backswing.
Keep your head behind the ball throughout the swing.

This helps me keep my right shoulder under the swing.

Why do you want to change the shape Chris?

Are you just bored of the same flight all the time...
Having a fade does have its advantages too as soes the draw.... 50/50 split in my opinion.
