My place has just implemented new competion software. We enter our scores (in the clubhouse) when posting our card and the scores and leaderboard can then 'instantly' be accessed via the club website - so using your mobile phone etc. Cool. We're not on HDID - but now we have this I'm wondering what HDID would add on top of this basic 'scores' and leader board functionality.

That's sounds cool, what is the software called?

we use masterscoreboard...

live leaders gross and nett scores, number of pars/birdies/eagles/bogies etc at each hole, holes ranked in order of difficulty on the day, gross scores and separate nett scores table, '2's at what hole and who got them. Winners identified on the main scores table for each class and the overall winner....
click any player and view their card for the day showing how they put a score together, also shows all their previous scores and handicap record in a graph

cant think what else we/anyone would need over this

Seeing this title got me thinking, am I alone in thinking it would be cool to see an actual "live" scoreboard in the club house? As in, instead of a paper score card, players enter there scores on a very basic handheld device that is linked to the scoreboard in the clubhouse (obviously this would be a provisional score, and would need signing etc at the end).

I just think it would be awesome to be sat at th 19th, seeing a group turn up on the 18th tee, and know that one of them is currently leading....

I appreciate the cost wouldn't be too cheap, but I also don't think it would be horrendous, especially if the handheld devices were kept basic.

or am I alone in this?

Would be very cool but quite expensive i'd have thought and would be dependant on what device is used to upload the data in round! Not everyone has smart phones though it is becoming more the norm to have one and it brings up the can they then be trusted not to use it to aid wind direction!

My bro in laws company have a software that is live golf scoreboard. basically you register your group in the clubhouse then after each hole you send a text message to a set number with your groups scores, updates the live leaderboard in the club and via the web and app. he rents it out to corp golf days etc. i did offer it up FOC to the H4H day, but we decided to keep the element of surprise etc.

You get live updates on masterscoreboard? Our club uses it but we dont see anything until the results are released, which is usually anytime from the next day to the next month lol...

Think its not too far away, played Anahita GC yesterday where we can use the in-buggy screens for a rangefinder, course guide and hole-by-hole scoring (as well as ordering drinks etc so it obviously has real-time link to the clubhouse)

Players can also have their scorecard emailed through to themselves on completion so the download facility exists, shouldn't be too much of a leap to link live scoring to a live leader-board

I like the idea but can't see how the cost would warrant it. How much excitement does the monthly medal really generate? Great for big events like the club championship but can't see the merit long term

The cost would be dictated by how the player gets his score to the clubhouse.. if the use a system that can take input data from a phone (ie SMS, email, via an APP) the cost will be quite low, a new server, the software and a screen (plus some bandwidth)

If however, you had a "bespoke" system like the in buggy screens slab mentions above, then the cost would rise quite dramatically with either new "handsets" or reprogramming of existing.

It very much a viable option though, however after the "this is cool" of using it once or twice, would it be that well used? as you mention Martin, in the club champs or an open, maybe. the monthly medal or stableford? maybe not.. the technology is well and truly out there now though!

sorry, mixing up masterscoreboard (which has all that) with computer at clubhouse which shows 'live' leaderboard with scores in.

We use Masterscoreboard as well. Monitor in the bar showing scores being entered and current leaderboard, but no access through the website until the competition has been closed, which is usually about an hour after the last group's finished.

ours is linked to the terminal and shows up the leaders after the round on a flat screen in the bar. We use the computer2000 thing with hdid. Ive never actually seen it working though!

Sorry to drag up an old(ish) thread.....

I was told about (and used) a pretty cool "live scoreboard" app for the phone, called "Status4" (no link to them).

This is pretty much as talked about above, you add your scores through your phone after each hole, normally one person does it for the group, and it updates a live leaderboard and score. Worked so well that two of our friends could check in on our scores during our round, was quite a novelty!

Has anyone else used this, and has any tips? Or do people know of even better (also free) apps that do the same job?

VPar do this. But it depends on someone in/with each group having a compatible device and entering the data.

Post Round entry is pretty much sufficient and the most cost-effective imo. Several systems can allow details to be available, in unconfirmed mode, before comp is closed.

Think our club is still muting the idea of having one of those scoreboards you see at some Pro Ams and local PGA events with the letters and numbers and getting the juniors to man it for the club championship. We have a cut after the Saturday round and so it could be fun looking to see where the predicted cut line will be and who is and isn't in as the day progresses plus how people move up and down on day 2 before the winner is declared

You can show the leaderboard on HDID and people can see it but people were turning up - checking the leaderboard and if a good score was in where not bothering to go out
