A couple of weeks ago. I had an important meeting to get to about 100 miles away. Up early, took the dogs for a walk as dawn was breaking. As I got back home, they both jumped out of the Skoda Fabia estate and somehow I managed to close the lid on my right thumb. It was securely trapped high up on the side of the rear door. Two problems - I couldn't reach to release the catch and the nearest neighbour is about three hundred yards away and no I didn't have my mobile in my pocket.
After a lot of shouting, my neighbour finally realised something was wrong and came running. The Skoda has the sort of catch that needs the back door to be pushed down in order to make it release - not much fun!
A few stitches later, I did make my meeting.
The split on the underside of the thumb has healed up brilliantly and, of course, the nail has come off. Still a bit tender and not a very pretty sight. However, I am going to try it out on the practice ground tomorrow.
Still don't know how I managed it - brain in neutral I suppose.
