Played at Forest Of Arden on EAGT yesterday...

A combination of:

Poor driving, bad shots with irons and too many putts
My lack of Golf Skill
Slow Play - nearly 6 hour round (and we deliberately walked one par 3 (15th), to get past the inconsiderates in front)

eventually came together on 17. hit a great drive straight down the middle, left 210 to pin, knocked it to about 6 foot missed the eagle chance, made a tap in birdie

scored 19 points

decided not to play in round 2

And this weekend started so well, maybe next weekend - hey ho

thats a poor show! nearly 6 hours for 17.
Assume you stayed for DBnB and drove home this morning?

i see there was a -3 gross in course playing nicely other than the tortoises in front of you?
i had one of those days at ganton back in june am and pm 20/19 points, and 10 minutes in between for soup and sandwiches.

Forest of Arden is a tough course I've played it twice both times with a minging hangover and struggled. Going to play it sober sometime

I love the Arden course, but 5/6 hr rounds are not unusual, unfortunately.
I don't really understand why it's so bad, I know it's tough but that's no excuse for how badly slow it is.
We played The Hotchkin last weekend and managed 18 holes, and a pint after 9, in just over 4 hr's.

zero excuse for stableford to 6 hours, struggle to accept it to be more than 4.5 hours.

assume you were in 3balls?

we were a 3-ball, but sadly got stuck behind a 4-ball with no etiquette...or perhaps more politely no understanding of what they should be doing. We called 'fore' a few times on different holes to speed them up, but to no avail.

Worse was when we walked past them on the par 3 we missed out, they were oblivious to why we might choose to sacrifice points on a hole. We finished the next hole before they'd even tee'd off.

The marshall had a busy time trying to speed everyone up, but we and the groups behind us just couldn't go anywhere...and certainly not any quicker.

It was a really nice course - and I will go back again sometime in the future. I'm sure I saw a poster in the club house with an offer on for 18 holes, maybe included a bite to eat too for 40 bucks, or £25 for the Aylesford course

not a bad deal - i normally play it on corporate though;)

Was the 4 ball part of the comp? also, in general, how is the EAGT run? may enter a few events next year.

EAGT is run quite well fairly friendly bunch and great opportunities to play qualifiers at top courses, down side is the cost :(
Some events offer better value than others IMO. I played birkdale last year ganton this Sunningdale on the radar for next years jolly.
If you do a few it's worth joining g and having a crack at qualifying for the turnberry final.

I'd agree with all of that.

I played a lot when it was Fore Tour and the guy who runs it, David Hughes, is a top bloke too.

I'm planning on playing more in the future although some of the entry fees are beyond my means.

I had a terrible round yesterday, scored 107 at Keighley. Drove it really well until 12/13th and then had a 5 from the tee and 3 from the tee, felt like I did when I started playing 3 years ago. I don't hit it long long but wasn't getting any yardage on my irons and my short game was horrendous. Putting was ok but the greens were a lottery as they'd been spiked. To be honest all 3 of us played badly. Had 5 good holes on the trot (2 pars, 3 bogies) but apart from that I hit nothing, really really frustrating. Left the course really gutted.

Playing in a comp on Sunday and are fearing the worst just don't know whats happened.

I wouldn't worry too much about it...

We all play well and we all play bad...that's why we have handicaps, and don't forget everyone has 'form', whether good or bad

I hit my first good drive yesterday on 6th hole. Absolutely creamed it (around 310), left a 3/4 PW into a shared green, I thought I was off and running, but I topped my 2nd, shanked my 3rd into a ditch, took a drop and promptly shanked that...I then picked up - no points. Which gave me my worse start to a round ever. 4 points from 6 holes.

I was more surprised that I'd kept the same ball for the first 6 holes...it felt like I'd lost 10

Yes its just so frustrating when your hoping that your making some progress after playing reasonably well the previous few games. I'm wanting to be more consistant, which I've done but felt lost yesterday after the majority of my shots. Kept the same ball too up until the drive OOB and then lost 3 balls over the next 3 holes!!!
