Just wondering if anyone has done the upgrade to OXS Mavericks yet?

I've held off at the moment as it seems there may be a couple of bugs with it at the moment. Looking on Apple Discussions it seems there may be an issue with mac mail and some MS office programmes are crashing on startup.

I will make the jump but I think I'll wait until 10.9.1 is released.

Will be doing in a couple of weeks as I'm hopefully getting a new laptop. Sounds like a good plan to wait for the patch - the iOS7 one wasn't long in coming!

Did you see the drummer feature on GarageBand? It's absolutely insane - if you have 2 minutes and are a bit geeky, watch this and tell me how it works! I'm totally dumfounded - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybcU3DMPqLk&feature=player_detailpage#t=2708

Hate to admit but I've never even opened GarageBand so wouldn't know where to start.

What spec of laptop are you looking at getting? I got a little carried away when I ordered mine - MBP with retina and solid state drive etc. Fantastic machine and well worth the leap from PC.

Probably an Air. My lovelier half happens to work for Apple so making the most of some discount before Christmas. I've had an old white MacBook for 6 years now and it's finally on the way out.

The retina's are booootiful, but I just couldn't justify one unfortunately :(

The air's are lovely machines, I just needed the larger screen and then ended up like the "kid in a candy store"

6 years is fantastic compared to the lifespans I got with PC's. This was the thing that convinced me as one of my customers has a pro that is 6 years old and he thinks it's still as good, and quick, as the day he got it. My PC's were slowing down over just a few months with all the updates and bloat wear etc that was being put on it.

I know Apple is expensive (and a bit of a marmite product) but I love the fact that it just works. No fuss, no issues just switch it on and go. I'll happily admit to being an Apple fanboy now :D

Yup, nail on the head for me. I initially got mine as I was doing Music Tech at A Level and needed it to work out of the classroom but will never go back. Sure you can potentially do more with a machine running something like Linux, but who cares? As you say, Mac's just work. In 6 years, not once have I ever had to buy or use any popup blockers or malware prevention malarkey - the security of them is brilliant. My brother has probably had three laptops in the time I've had my one which is not only expensive, it's a pain in the arse to have to transfer / lose stuff all the time. With iCloud, I know that when I get my air, everything will be transferred over, including all the contacts and info from my phone - jeeze, I'm beginning to sound like a sales pitch.

Is mavericks the next after Lion?

There has been Mountain Lion in between. I've got Mountain Lion (V 10.8.5) at the moment.

Mavericks is a free upgrade for Mac users. The technical specs for machines supported are here http://www.apple.com/uk/osx/specs/

It seems there's a few bugs at the moment so it's worth waiting until the update is released - I suspect this will only take a couple of weeks.

Is the free upgrade time limited or is it just a free upgrade for whenever you want? If so, I’ll wait for the next update before upgrading.

Finally completed my Apple trifecta and and now have MBP (non retina because I wanted the DVD drive), iPad and now iPhone 5c…It’s like ebony and ivory, everything is synced. Loving life!

Glad they finally updated iTunes too, seems to finally work without freezing every 5 minutes! Hooray!

On a related note, how sexy does the iPad Air look!

I'm hoping that the free upgrade is ongoing but I don't know the answer I'm afraid.

I'm with you on the MBP. As much as I like the retina it is a pain not having the inbuilt dvd drive. I have to carry a superdrive around with the laptop for when I need it (not to mention the cost of buying the superdrive of course).

I'm sticking with the iphone 5 for now but my better half's 4 is on it's last legs. May be forced to get an upgrade and let her have my 5.

Trying very hard not to be tempted by the ipad air but I've got to go into the Apple Store later. Blinkers on, eyes front - it's gonna be difficult!!!

I've installed it on my laptop, no issues at all. All of my MS apps (including remote desktop) are working fine. I've held off on the desktop just in case as that is a more work centric machine.

Installed it on my iMac and laptop and no issues. I install every OS and iOS update as soon as it arrives and haven't had any major issues with any of them. There are sometimes a bug or two or some third party software has not been updated in time, but the vast majority of the time it works pretty seamlessly.

My laptop is my right arm work-wise hence I've held back for now.

The two main issues that I've seen in the Apple Discussions are that a few people are experiencing MS Office crashes (but this appears to be the foreign language versions - Polish, Finnish etc) and quite a few others are having problems with mac mail.

I think that office (english language version) is working okay but how has mac mail been behaving for you?

Saw the update on my iMac when I logged in this evening but not had chance to do it yet. Looking at getting the MBP soon as wife needs laptop for work. Can't face a windows machine ever again, had the iMac 4 years and only slowed when we put mountain lion on, this is only at start up mind. My old pc's were scrap after a year tops.

Updated my iMac last night - MS Office & MacMail both working perfectly
