Hi

I was recently diagnosed with mild osteoarthritis in my hips. I'm just wondering if any other members suffer with the same condition and give me any golf related advice to keep me playing golf for as long possible.

Many thanks

Craig

My speciality too, having the first hip replaced about 6 years ago and the second 4 years, I'm now 64. It was almost impossible to walk 18 holes before the first operation but oh so good afterwards. I didn't rush the return, I was fully 3 weeks before playing 9 hole's :smirk: !

I echo what others have said and am delighted with the results, I had resurfaces rather than replacement, and have annual blood tests for metal in blood which have proved negative so far.

Good luck with whatever you do but I'm so glad I had mine done .

Brufen and Naproxen are both anti-inflammatory medicines as well as pain relievers - they come with down side like upset stomach - hence the stomach protector named above.

Try paracetamol before these, if it works it's safer in the long run. And since osteoarthritis isn't usually an inflammatory condition anyway (unless you are having a really bad spell) you may not need the anti-inflammatory action anyway.

If that doesn't work, then by all means step things up to ibuprofen or naproxen.

as above,i take ibruprofen and co codomol plus tramadol and a lining tab to boot.right knee is shot and left aint to far behind it.
or i should, have been weaning myself off them as much as i can and not pushing myself too much, will never carry my bag again as i blew my r knee again after 3 mths so back using the battery trolley.
saving grace is they say im too young for a knee replacement but admit i need 1.
sucks being in pain dont it chaps.

I often wonder how much shorter the golf life is for people who insist on always carrying

i took tramadol when I had a really bad case of sciatica. Boy that is strong. I don't think I could play golf with that inside me. I Only took it sparingly and got off it as soon as I could due to its addictiveness.

if i take everything im meant too, then i should be on 21 tabs a day.er me thinks if i was to do all that eventually i will become immune to them and really addicted.so i dont.

yes amount of peeps who complain about carrying but refuse to use a trolley because of there pride etc.
me i dont give 2 hoots what they think of me.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your help, currently I've only got mild arthritis so I'm not popping pills at the moment so ive got that to come.

but I have brought is some compression shorts which I hope will support the muscles around the hips during a round of golf and help recovery afterwards. Plus I'm going to try a cold bath after playing golf to reduce any inflammation.

Also what golf shoes would you recommend to help reduce the weight going through your hips when walking

Cheers
Craig
