Simple question (to which I do not know the answer!).

On the first day of a tournament how do they decide who tees off first on the first tee? Is it pot luck (balls picked from a hat etc) or it is based on performance/world rankings etc?

Just wondering.........

As far as I know the honour within each group is in the order the players were drawn into the group.

As to how the groups are drawn & ordered is another thing and I think depends on rankings and the category the player is in (players may be in any one of up to something like 12-15 categories depending on how they qualified to enter the tournament). For the bigger events, it also depends on TV coverage for whatever country - for example Japanese players may well end up being out on the course during peak Japanese viewing time etc

Depends on the format, depends on the comp, depends on the organisation requirements as well as one or two other possibilities, but besides all that its usually down to lowest h/c off first.

At Augusta I think I'm right in thinking for the opening rounds they try and have a USPGA player, a European and an International if possible.

In normal tour events I nthink they have a number of prime time slots that they try and get their star names into and the rest of the draw is pretty random. I think the Open is a totally random draw.
