Order of Merit

Just after a bit of info and advice regarding an "Order of Merit " type competition. At my course we don't have an Order of Merit during the summer comps so my business is going to sponsor a trophy for one this year. I am having a meeting with the match secretary this Saturday to discuss how I want to do it. To give you a bit of info we have approx 20 qualifying singles comps with an average of 50-70 players per comp with nearer the 100 mark for Captains day and Club champs, so my initial thoughts are to have the top 10 players per week receiving points based on position ie 1st-15 2nd-12 3rd -10 .......10th-1, and then having a double points situation for the 2 "Majors" as above.

Just wondering what other courses do or if there are any alternatives to my proposal

It's similar to ours. I think we have points down to 15 starting with 20 for 1st place. Can't remember the exact spread.

There's only double points for us in the club champs only, just normal for the other majors.

The other thing is for OOM points there is no count-back. So you can get 2, or more, people getting 20 points from 1 comp. The comp itself still has count back.

We have a weekend OOM and separate mid-week OOM.

The only thing I'm not fond of is the double points in the club champs. The winner almost guarantees a top 10 spot regardless of the rest of the year. So if you double point all your majors then if someone wins the first 2 they could have the OOM sewn up half way through the year.
