After a few sherbets, have ended up ordering the new Optishot 2. Got a half decent deal for £270 for fathers day and now it is on its way. Also bought junior a set of Golphinforkids clubs which arrived today. Will be ordering some netting and then next week start putting together a driving bay/Simulator in the garage. All the money saved from not buying the dishwasher has gone into this!!! (or should I say, I would rather do the dishes then give up on the golfing dream)

I had a look at all the golf sim out there.. Flightscope, Trackman, P3Pro, Skytrack etc, but nothing would fit in the budget. Most of them are also US based, so by the time you add shipping and UK Customs duty, it is no longer in budget. However, the Optishot 2 was $500 and ships from the UK so no UK Customs duty - also they were kind to give a Father's day discount of £100.. so all in, it costs about $410 i.e. about £270ish. Not bad IMO.

Anyone has suggestions on where to procure a short throw projector, refurbed laptop and some cheap nets..

Good man. Im the same. If i have my eye on something but cant commit to buying it. A few beers usually sorts that!

As much as I would would love a simulator I can't see the benefit myself - unless you have the cash to get a proper Trackman you might as well play a Playstation game.

refurbed laptop

Would a small form pc work better here? Could be picked up for under £300 and be way more powerful than an old laptop. http://www.scan.co.uk/products/scan...-intel-celeron-hd-graphics-4gb-ddr3-128gb-ssd Always check they meet minimum specs.

I guess the problem would be if the projector was not HDMI... Such as this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/opto...tor-3000-lumens-200001-contrast-vga-composite

It does add up, even for a basic range. I guess what you save in one area, like getting a second hand laptop, you can spend in others like a better projector. You can always upgrade the laptop later on to make better use of a good projector.

It's a step up from a Playstation game in my opinion, you are at least swinging your own clubs instead of a controller. If you tweak the settings so your clubs are configured properly it's not a bad bit of kit for under £300. For the vast majority of shots I would say it mirrors how I hit the ball in real life, sometimes you get strange results like a 390 yard drive which I know are way off, I can only drive it about 350 (forum)yards:)
