Optimum Ball Launch.

For a driver. With the invention of launch monitors companies have tried to tell us when custom fitting, the numbers we should see. I'm not going to say about swing speed, just asking about launch angle and RPM's? I know other factors need to be taken into account but it's those 2 things I'm asking about, and what you are led to believe?

Me, ive been told 11-14* and spin rate around 2500-2700.

Yep, the numbers you have been told are the numbers I have been told...

Optimal ball launch for me is the ball going forward :D

I thought optimal was 14° and 1800rpm. Personally I'm actually trying to hit the ball HIGHER rather than lower... why would I want to hit the ball low unless it was into the wind?

That said.... I haven't hit a ball for 2 months and am a gnats ball away from quitting altogether.

Bit low on the revs there, the ball will try and fall out the sky too quick and you may lose some roll in summer.

Why so glum about our wonderful game?

Sounds about the same as I was told at Titleist

sounds like you have lost the 'fun factor' in Golf- remember those summer days playing for fun where no shot seemed impossible and you were blissfully unaware of swing path, plane, S&T, point 2, optimum impact, ball flight laws yaddy yaddy ya

Get back there and smell the grass again:thup:

And presumably up? :D

Not always necessary :D

IMO people need to forget about swing paths , ball flights etc etc and just bloody enjoy the game - we are all amateurs pursing a hobby.

Listening to some you would think it is their livelihood - it some just looked to enjoy the game then they could possibly start to actually play better - it worked for me.

I haven't got a clue about swing paths or ball flights or stack and tilt or hidge etc etc - I just rock up hit the ball and have a good laugh

There is no optimum launch angle and spin.

There is optimum launch angle and spin for a given ball speed.

Optimum launch angle and spin for a golfer's ball speed may not be acheiveable with that golfer's angle of attack, so optimum may not be achievable by that golfer.

Thats a pretty funky tool there from FS.

I had a Trackman session with Precision Golf last month so have all my current stats to plug in and then adjust to see where I can improve.

Driver stats were;
155 mph ball speed
11deg launch
2365 rpms
All else being equal, gave me 250yrd carry.
By just tweaking the launch angle by the prescribed +5 deg that the WRX article suggests, increases distance to 275yrds carry! Something to try to on the range next time....

Eeek, +5* up, your going to have to dig a hole on the tee box and stand in it...

Bet Precision Golf was good!
