Yesterday i had the pleasure of playing in the Alyth GC 18 hole open, this course is one of the best tracks in the area and at £12 was a steal.

The condition of the course was A1 the greens were spot on ,true and fast to be honest i haven't putted on greens that good in a long time. We were out at 8.20 and in before 12 so good timing as the first group were out at 7 the only thing was when we came in they were saying they were 30 minutes behind schedule.

If you are ever in this part of Scotland i recommend you play this course.

Do you guys play in many Opens or stick to your home tracks for me this was a steal play of the back tees course superb ,food really good and reasonable price and friendly staff.

Hirsel Open yesterday Steve and it too was £12.

The course was magnificent and I didn't hear one negative comment which is great for a club that has endured some tough times recently.

Shame the Ladies Open that Fairwaydodger has been washed out today though.:(

Opens are the way forward.Thinking of doing the Mortonhall one next Saturday as I have heard the course is in A1 nick.

We had a cracking day weather wise yesterday as well but today its heaving down. There was 165 played at Alyth yesterday so a a full field basically , defo way forward Alan ,my course is poor just now so looking at Opens next few weeks might try the Ballater 36 hole on saturday think its £22.

Fundy all the opens around here are between £12-£20 think my course is the dearest at £22,was talking with one of the lads from Alyth yesterday he said last year it was £15 but they didn't have such a big entry so the brought it down to £12 and they got a full entry so full marks to them for forward thinking. £50 for an Open is nuts, only Royal Aberdeen is that up here.

210 competed yesterday from 6am.Great to see the course heaving.

That £50 for RA is still great value for a superb golf course. It is just a shame more of the top tracks don't tend to hold opens.

Some field that mate, well done on getting such a big entry, its still worth £50 to play it don't get wrong but the jump from £35 to £50 is a bit much, i cant make it this year due to work but a couple of the lads in my squad are playing .

Glad you liked the course mate. The greens really are good at the moment, I hope all this rain does not spoil them! Are you still leaving Scotscraig? Why not join Alyth?

Aye cashing in on it's high stock it holds at the present.I missed it,totally forgot and I am gutted as I love the place and we were planning on playing it sober instead of the car crash wrecks we have been the last 2 years!;)

I think its a course that you need to play sober mate or it bites your arse :) theres just some top value on Opens just now one of my mate sis playing Murcar today its £25 against a weekend green fee of £96, i would have went but kids football and golfed out ( i've played every day this week ) so thoughtd i'd pass its a course really like. I think Royal Dornoch have a few opens at decent prices.

Deke i'm still considering it as are a few more if i do leave it will be Monifieth i join basically for winter golf as i play all year round, if Alyth was good in winter i'd join in a heart beat as its only 20 mins from my house and i know a lot of lads up there.

We had an open yesterday, the Jackson Cup. which is played off the very back tee's, £20 and still only had 60 entires. So fee £20 is too much up here even to play the course as it was set up for the Walker Cup.I can undertand that for a lot of our members the course is too long for them with the blues tee's on some holes being 50/ 70 yards further back on some holes.

and before Alan jumps in here, the course is in excellent condition at the moment, with the greens running well.

That is criminal....even I would jump at £20 to play Nairn!!;)

Patrick £20 for an Open at your place is still fantastic value any reason why the entry was so low ? is it just the course length? . i need to be on the ball next season and get some more in as some fantastic tracks at great prices.

I think its a very local thing, a lot of the opens are under subscibed. Guys up here just like to play their home course.

Though 3 weeks ago the King Trophy for 8 and below handicaps was full almost 180 enties. What may have scared folk of was that we had a windy day and the course was set up tough with the CSS coming in at 77, 5 over par and RO with 83 NR's. ;)

Some cheeky prices there Fundy thats for sure, i think its a good idea financially to do it as the golf club was buzzing yesterday people eating drinking basically spending money and in these time is a bonus.

Some of the lads played Lundin Links 36 the other week ,wind was up course hard and fast and it was R/O only think it was the 3rd was impossible to hold even with a short iron it played that tough.

Its also a way to play outside your normal squad the guys i played with were really good company as well which is a bonus.

I love playing in opens and totally agree - a great opportunity to play these courses for relative peanuts. I played Carnoustie for (I think) £22!

The main problem, I find, is there aren't all that many ladies individual opens on weekends. I took a half day last week to play at Newbattle and am doing likewise this week for Dunbar. Lots of clubs doing greensomes or some team format instead :(. I was only playing at the Hirsel because we had a group of thirty odd going!

thats the options around us lol, pretty limited and pretty pricy. Cant see any Nairn like courses at £20 or Alyths at £12 lol. Think clubs up your way use them as a way to showcase their golf course, down here its to make money pure and simple, if the courses can even be bothered.

How long are you out of action for? There's one on there at Burford and although it isn't cheap it looks a decent course and on a Sunday which is a bonus for me!

Am back hitting balls again but very loathe to commit to anything currently in case it goes again. the lack of faith in it means the left arm is collapsing and everything is going pretty much straight left too.

Burford is a nice track, when is it? Edit: just looked, seems its the same day as our clubs champs so a definite non runner for me

Stevie did you play in open because friends were or just because your not happy at scotscraig ?
The reason I ask is I've thought about entering opens just to play the different courses but have never applied as I wouldn't want to show myself up with guys only intent on winning .
