It will be here before you know it, quicker than we all think, opening day 2008.But this year has a slightly different, apart from the nerves the atmosphere the intisipation, there is a new rule that has landed. How many wallies do you think there will be who have had their head stuck in the sand for the last 2 years and not got a legal driver and does anyone have ideas how the clubs are going to police it ?

Personally I don't really mind if they police it or not.

Its up to people to sort themselves out and not be nannied by their clubs.

I also do not believe an illegal club is giving anyone a huge advantage, hence my apathy. Everything I have read shows some people losing minimum distance and quite a lot actually gaining yards.

(My Driver is conforming BTW, incase this was viewed as a non-conformist justification)

I know that illegal drivers have been advertised here there and everywhere but I do genuinely feel that the manufacturers should have done more to help the masses who originally bought these clubs in good faith. They should have offered a £x upgrade facility to help soften the blow. People with families, mortgages etc aren't all in the position to go and spend another £100-£300 on a new driver just so they can continue to play in the weekend medal.

Ping many years ago re-called every set of Eye 2 irons and either re did the grooves free of charge or offered you a new set at a dirt cheap price. Thats customer service!

Can you imagine if BMW made a fault on one of there cars and told punters sorry but you'll have to pay for the new part not us? There would be a nationwide outcry.

Guess that doesnt really answer your question mate and I dont know how easy it will be for clubs to implement the driver ban.

Maybee people will now have a think to themselves before being caught out by big companys saying buy my driver it hits the ball x amount of yards further. Its like this custom fit lark, a load of old BULL****

If a driver is illegal it shouldn't be in the bag. If people carry on using it they are cheats, and I loathe cheats.

I think that it will be nearly impossible for clubs to enforce it so basically it is down to other golfers to grass up any offenders.

Divot, think the custom fit debate needs to be laid to rest before it all flares up again. The atmos has got more pleasant since that topic was dropped.

My club have placed large notices all over the place to remind everyone.

But like Happy personally don't see why it's a big issue for club golfers and weekend hackers.
And as Jon says it is cheating as it's banned.

The RANDA must take a bit of resposibilty here also, they should have let the club golfer keep on using them for another few years, after all i dont think they are a great advantage in the hands of a club golfer.Ok med i wont say another word about custom fit, its out of bounds now, or should i say 3 of the T.

No offence divot and wasn't having a dig at you either. Sometimesit's best to not mention certain things, I have a mate who is a gooner and we just don't talk footy as sparks tend to fly!!!

I am sympathetic to your views, particularly on the club golfer, this is the guy who may not have the funds to buy a new, conforming driver of good quality.

However rules is rules and they have to be adhered to as they are fundamental to the ethos in whch our game should be played.

We had 4 years notice about non-conforming drivers. Plenty of time, in my mind. In fact I bought one knowing it didn't conform and happily used it for a full 3 years.

The clubs won't police the matter. They'll expect us to. In otherwords if we spot a non-conforming driver in a playing partner's bag in a medal we'll be expected to mention it to him.

It's up to the individual but it's not made easy. The list they have at the club seems endless and also somewhat of a problem since not every club, freely available at retailers, is on either the conforming or non-conforming lists.
Retailers and manufacturers both bear some responsibility. Clubs that were due to be non-conforming this year were still being sold late last year with no indication of that and 99.999% of people starting golf last year would have no knowledge that were being sold a pup.

Using nonconforming drivers is ok if your out having a bash and your an infrequent player, but in competitions, or playing for money or beer with your mates and if you belong to a club then without a doubt you should have the proper kit which the rule book says you should have, If you dont then your cheating!!

I know that a club near me is intending to have somebody standing on the first tee, ensuring that drivers are legal. I presume he/she is going to have a large list. But to be honest the majority of golfers i know changed as soon as the rule change was announced anyway.

I'm sure there will be the odd occassion where somebody puts in a good round and then gets found out afterwards. Like to be a fly on the wall when that happens.

Can you imagine if BMW made a fault on one of there cars and told punters sorry but you'll have to pay for the new part not us? There would be a nationwide outcry.

Um, time for nationwide outcry......front suspension on 3 series (2001), mine went at 13,000, under 2 years.....BMW told me it was a "serviceable part".
I took 'em to small claims, and lost.....shan't be buying another. Their loss, idiots......

Dave

Dave, BMW are absolutely shoddy for warranty work.

I will not stock Beemers as a rule.

I stick to driving mercs, or vw/audi cars for myself nowadays as they are solid, reliable cars. Mercedes are very good on re-calls and warranty repairs, even corrosion on the E-Class which is horrific, You see 6 year old ones that are rotten.

To continue the motoring theme..

many BMW's are designed to travel at more than 155 mph, I'm sure, but have speed limiters installed at the factory.

That's just what thy've done with our drivers, guys. Stop crying and get used to it. We've known for 4 years

re cars. got the missus a corsa last year within two weeks the gear selector arm snapped guess what the warranty didn't cover it. reminded them that i had just spent 5k but weren't intersted. said it would cost 280 to repair told them to f... themselves. my mate did it for 140. cant mention them on here.......can i??
