On Saturday I played in an Open Stableford as part of our Open Week.I scored 39 points which was third on countback.
The person who came first also had 39 points playing off 26. The rules of the comp state max h'cap 20 and his score off 20 would obviously be lower. Now what would you do? would you mention this to the comp convenyor or would this be just seen as being petty?
Ps 99.99% sure that I will not complain about this as I am delighted with my h'cap cut and not overly worried over £20/30

You shouldn't need to mention it - it should be picked up by the organising committee. They've seen fit to cut you but have ignored the rules on handicap limits? I'd be in there standing my ground. It may only be a dozen balls worth but its the principle.

No sour grapes about it.....if the handicap limit was 20 and his score was accrued off of 26, he should be disqualified for signing a wrong score card.
If he scored 39 off of 20 the bloke wants shooting 'cos he's a bandit.
You came second mate

If you are certain that he played using the full 26 shots it needs to be mentioned - it should be so obvious looking at the card that the comitee have really messed up, when I was comp sec I always used to double and triple check the good scores.

If he's played off 26 you should mention it, he's done someone out of a prize
I hadn't actually considered that someone else would miss out on prize. The comp. convenyor was glad I pointed this out as he hadn't put scores up in club, only on howdidido.

Played in open comp today, 25 points, 3 sh..ks, how I love this game.

He didn't sign an incorrect card, so long as he recorded the correct number of strokes taken for each hole. Tallying the points (and the total shots taken for each 9 and the 18) is the responsibility of the committee. His card stands, but he only get 33 points, because he can only claim 20 shots.

My comment was based on the maximum handicap for that competition being 20. If he has signed a card showing an incorrect handicap for the competition in play, surely that is DQ?

:D

'player begins a match having declared a handicap higher than that to which he is entitled and this affects the number of strokes given or received, he is disqualified; '

match play or stroke play - if you gain an advantage from a wrong handicap - dq, if not you play to declared handicap

I just re-read my above post and realised didn't really clarify 'winners' postition
I don't think he was disqualified but he didn't win a prize. I would imagine that his score of 26 would have allowed him to be cut, just his score in competition is 6 shots less, hence no prize.
