Over the last few weeks I have had the pleasure of going several clubs open days.

The first open I attended was at Rockmount in Carryduff - http://www.rockmountgolfclub.co.uk/

This was played on a fantastic Friday evening. Course was in absolute fantastic shape, even as we played at 1700hrs. This was a fantastic course with fast subtle greens and lush fairways. The only problems on the day where my own fault- but now I know not to wield the driver at every hole I play. I must have lost 8 balls, but worth every one - I will be back. Favourite hole - such a great finish, hills quite tight and water in front of an elevated green. Finished with 28points, but a two eased the pain.

Next open was Shandon Golf Club in Belfast - http://www.shandonpark.co.uk/

I have heard a lot about this course, I certainly had high expectations. It surpassed all these. While playing it was hard to believe you are in East Belfast. Course was in fantastic shape- I will without a doubt go back- Favourite hole 12th - massive bunker hidden in dead ground from Tee - I landed my 3 wood 5 yards short almost 300 yards (ask the ones playing in front-sorry lads), I really liked the short holes, I had chances of 2's on all th par 3's and one par 4. Only converted one of them. Finished with 37 points and big smiles.

Next up was County Armagh Golf Club - I used to live 300 yards from this club, I had to choose between this and my current club- Decided I would not join as a few told me it closes quite often due to water in winter. http://www.golfarmagh.co.uk/

Weather was very wet and grass was just cut so the course crucified if you hit the rough. I managed to stay out of it rightly. Course was in great order - its condition can only described as great, some very tricky holes with nasty sloping greens. Local knowledge would help a LOT. Favourite hole - 10th Dog leg up hill great hole pity about my 9. Finished level power -rubbish as I had 29 points on the front 9 and really chuffed up the back 9.

All in I played some very good courses that have been on the hit list but I just never got the chance to play. I really struggled to play Rockmount but I blame my bad streak and bad course management. I am looking forward to playing all these courses again - and I highly recommend them to any visitors.

You will have a fantastic time - Ireland as a whole has many brilliant courses, but as the Euro rate is high we (in NI) have several gems.

check out the tourist board on http://www.discovernorthernireland.com/

or the Republic of Ireland on
http://www.discoverireland.com

If you want any help please post as there are a few locals on here and I am sure we have plenty of knowledge between us.

As much as I object to the prospect of loosing the pound, perhaps we should have gone across to the Euro when the Pound was a lot stronger against the Euro. Perhaps then I could have afforded to move to Portugal or Eire. As The golf in both is supposed to be great & England as usual is continuing to be sold down the river by the incompetants in whitehall & #10... so what difference would our currency have made when you coniser what we've had to put up with in the last 18 months or so, especially over the last few months.

Rant over... soz chaps.

So, I'll put back on my sage tinted specticles & continue marking my balls with a green sharpie in the meantime. & dream of misty rain in the breeze.

wouldn't have made a scrap of difference. there would still have been the same bunch of incompetent, self-serving b's; we would still be paying exhorbitant levels of tax on fuel and still be ripped off on the prices compared to elsewhere.
