Open rota

Followed by portrush. Turnberry should be 2020 but it looks like they may bypass it after Trump's comments last week

Usually follows a Scotland then England pattern I believe apart from when it goes to St Andrews. Think Turnberry will be safe despite Trump's recent lunacy - he'll be old news by the time it's turn comes around. Besides the changes that have been made to the course demands the greatest stage.

I really think the R&A should drop Turnberry because of Trump. Maybe then he will sell it and disappear out of the U.K.

I have never played Turnberry - always wanted to but seriously put off by the thought of giving him any money!

Turnberry is too good a track to ditch.

Trump and Hawtree will turn Turnberry into the best venue on the rota. The proposed changes will only enhance the course and improve it no end.

It's a shame then that Trumps recent comments will possibly damage get chances of the course holding The Open.

Will be impressed if the R&A don't just turn a blind eye to the comments

Turnberry lost out on the open a few years back because the then owners announced that they would be hosting the open before the R & A announced it. Only for the R & A to give it to another course - oops.

Shame a special place has been removed from the Open rota because of an idiot.

Would be interested to know how many of the 'outraged of oxford' brigade on here (and the OOB Trump thread) are applying their principles to next year's trip?

I agree. Turnbery is a great open venue and a shame its not going to host it again, certainly in the short term. I wonder how long it'll be off the rota, and whether it's dependant on how long Trump is owner

and whether it's dependant on how long Trump is owner

Well of course it's dependant on Trump!

2020 and 2021 are the interesting years for decisions. St Andrews should probably feature as 2020 hosts given the 5 year cycle but 2021 will be the 150th championship. So what will they do?

What I meant is, if he sold tomorrow, how long would they keep it off the rota. Would it get re-instated immediately into the next slot for it, or will they leave it in the cold for a bit

Following the decision with Portrush, the earliest Turnberry could now feature is 2022 but I suspect it's a dead duck now. Reason being that the R&A won't touch it if Trump's involved and Trump would now have to sell up for it to feature as an Open venue. Given that he probably won't be able to sell it fast enough for it to even feature on the schedule of considered courses I think we're looking at 10 years or more before it could ever host the Open again.
