1st time post - Good site....

Anyway, In Sept my mate and I are going down south and we are going to play in a few open comps - These will all be off the medal tees.

Question is, should I be reporting my scores to my home club for handicap re-adjustment?

Thanks in advance....

Bruntsfield Links and Dundas Parks and off 18

Still to decide whether to go to England or play in a few when over in NI in the summer. May do both...?

If NI then we may look to do Castlerock, Galgorm Castle, Masserene and a few more.

Still to investigate England at present

This may be a silly question but would the same apply for a pro-am? I have no idea tbh.

Thanks in advance

Pro ams are generally team events (2 to count from 4) so it wouldn't be required. If it was a full medal for the am then I would have thought that the same rules apply as a normal open

Pretty sure that the comp organiser has to return your cards/ scores to your home course

In essence it is the players responsibilty to report his scores to his home club, whether he knows the CSS or not...

As in Ireland, with their golfnet, all the scores get reported to their home (if in Ireland) clubs automatically by compter....the EGU are introducing this this year but it's going to take a while for everyone to fall in line...

Clubs are meant to send scores to participating golfers hoem clubs, but in reality many don;t bother. In any case the onus is still on the player to report. As for how will they know the CSS? I would use the phone and call the secretary on the Monday :p

I have found that guy's are quick to return good score cards but tend to forget to return the bad one's. They want to get cut but dont want to get a point back. Yes, it's up to the player to return his own card or make sure that it is returned.

Golfnet is a fantastic tool, I can look back at all of my 2006, 2007 and 2008 scores and see where I was cut and given 0.1 back, it does indeed also report back from open comps too. I am surprised england hasnt already adopted it though seeing as our wee country has been running it for a few years now.

The occurence and regularity of Opens in England, is nothing like that of Ireland and Scotland, even then the majority that are played are normally 4BBB rather than Mens opens. Probably explains the lag, although not in Scotland where such a system also hasn't been introduced as yet.

Ahh did not know that, Over here there are opens every month, even during the winter months at the better clubs.
One thing I find strange (I have been to england/scotland/wales quite a bit through work and pleasure) is that Saturdays is not always the big competition day. Over here it is the pinnacle of the week as far as golf is concerned though at our club we have some members playing on fridays to accomodate the demand for tee times for competitions as there just isnt enough time on a saturday to get everyone out.

Golfnet is great - the EGU version looks the same from what I have seen....it is also great for checking handicaps when you are at other clubs etc....

The problem with England is there are 4+ times as many golf clubs but also the EGU messed up a few years ago when they tried the original 'Golf Central' which all the clubs were in uproar about and it's remnants of this that has made clubs 'wary' of similar type things - it's going to be a but like GPS systems, once people see what they do and how easy they are to use then they'll be queueing up to get involved....
