Is there a set number, percentage of entries completed before a Competition becomes valid?

eg. If there was a 4BBB Comp which started at 8 am and finished at 4 p.m and then the heavens opened and some of the field walked off, maybe because the course was unplayable is there a magic figure of completed scores required?

If the course is unplayable then the committee should suspend play until it's fit for play or void the competition if this is not possible or there's no hope of improvement etc.

If it's simply not very nice and people are walking off then the committee could in theory rule as they wish but it would be very unfair to the competitors who completed the course to call it off.

Cheers Fylde. Appreciate your comments but is there an official version from The R and A? Whilst I am not saying your views are not practical I have a feeling we may have to cancel/suspend and this may happen with an Open Comp we are organising today in Cumbria.

Decision to suspend play or void competition rests with the competition committee.

Time for a big deep breath and a decision you stand by no matter who moans or groans at you.

If the course is unplayable then it's elementary surely ?

All the best anyway. Just remember, when you make the decision, stand by it.

Yep, that just about sums it up. I think the rules of golf are quite vague and as above it's all down to the committee. There are some rules around abandonned comps in the CONGU manual but that won't apply as it's a 4BBB. Do what is fair. eg if the course is unplayable and half the field are still out there then call it off. Nobody who's in has a case (although they'll still moan). If there are two groups still out then tell them to get on with it whatever the conditions. Of course the situations in between are where it gets tricky but that's why you went on the committee in the first place :D :D

Whatever you do make sure there's a few of you all agree and then as DCB says stick to the decision.

Surely if the course is unplayable part way through the comp becomes null and void irrespective of how many entries there have been and what scores are posted.

Dunno? but at club level (at my club) we've had comps start and then at some point the field has stopped "going out" because of terrible weather. Our pro has the final say and if necessary the players "down to play" are excused. What happens after that is anyone's guess....I tend to play later so I've not been mid-round when things have gone pear-shaped.

Last year, last Sunday, (366 days ago) we all played and at 2.10pm it chucked it down - the worst wind and rain I've ever seen in July.
Thankfully, it was a shotgun start and the complete field finished by 2.20 (72 players started on ALL tees at 10.00am)
Cool :)

This should have happened at Hever during their open in May. I know that Murph and a couple of others posted reasonable scores, and I take my Trilby off to them, but the course was practically under water after 5 or 6 holes. You even had ducks swimming across the bloody fairways!!
