Was thinking of treating myself this year and going to the Open for a
couple of days. Just seen the prices so thats a no then.
Cant believe they want £30 for the Wednesday practice day and £65 for the Thursday and
£15 to park. Thats £125 and thats before accommodation and food so its not happening shame :(

65 GBP seems fairly reasonable to me for an event that could keep you entertained for up to 12 hours if you have the stamina .

Ticket for 80 mins of rugby action Wales v Scotland in March is 60 GBP for me

Pretty reasonable ticket prices for a full day of sport,

I agree that the prices for the open are actually favourable with other top line sports. Especially if you price it per minute it's possible one of the best value entertainments around.

Have to agree that £65 is pretty reasonable in comparison with the price of elite sporting events. That would just about get you the cheapest seats at Twickenham.

The fact that most sporting events are massively expensive and overpriced for many is a different argument but The Open is in line with other events.

Don't forget to add the massively overpriced food and drink to the cost of the day out.

£65 that's only a little more than the cheapest seat at Chelsea and that's for 90 mins. For a full days golf seems a good deal

I've got my tickets and I believe £65 is a great price for a whole day of championship sport with every Elite player in the world present.

I don't think £30 is too bad for the practice day so I'll be there. You'll get to see a lot of action up close for that and it compares well with other sports. It's a great course that I've had the pleasure of playing so I want to see how the real experts do it there.

The food is always a rip off but you can always bring your own.

Going on the Saturday, I used to pay £18 to watch Darlo getting thrashed every week for 90 mins so £65 for 10 hrs of a major golf tournament is a bargain by comparison.

If you want to stay, I'd book a budget hotel in Liverpool and get the train....Wirral line to Hoylake (15 mins on a good day) which run every 7.5 minutes during the Open. There are about 1000 new hotel beds in Liverpool since Open as last there. Or you could pay £500 pppn at the Hilbark just down the road. Well worth the cost to get up close and personal with 100 best olfers in the world.

Thats right. There is a great Holiday Inn around 200 yards down the road but I bet that is sold out now.

I stayed there in March when I played Hoylake, cost less than £40 a night, wonder how much they will be charging in Open week

Green lodge hotel in August £63 per night, Friday night of the open £345. Scandalous.

How far down the railway do you think you need to go to get a reasonably priced room? I might go up for the weds/thurs, would happily jump back on a train to the Hotel, I certainly will not be paying £300+ for a room.

We have booked premier inn at £29 and that's 45 mins drive away. I am not paying over inflated prices for accommodation.
