open championship hoylake

How far down the railway do you think you need to go to get a reasonably priced room? I might go up for the weds/thurs, would happily jump back on a train to the Hotel, I certainly will not be paying £300+ for a room.
I don't know if Chester is the same (inflated prices), but if not you can get a train into Birkenhead from Chester, then another out to Hoylake. The whole journey should be about 45 mins.

Thanks, as I am coming up from London I thought about overnighting in Crewe, looks easy from there to Lime St and then out to Hoylake. Crewe travelodge looks reasonably priced

You could still get a few beers in Liverpool afterwards, which is good, I think trains run to Crewe reasonably late, maybe even after 10.
