I'm finally going to see how this game should be played tomorrow and as I'm new to on-course live golf ill probably be a little lost :D

Any advice from the day 1 attendees?

I bought a parking pass for one of the park and ride services so that is sorted. I'm having a cheat day tomorrow so I'm hoping for fish/chips for dinner if its available?

Cheers

Take some binoculars, wish I did when I went to Royal Lythm.
I was hoping to go this year but got too much on.
Enjoy.

Irrespective of forecast take sunscreen. I was sun burnt in 1990 at St. Andrews, grey & miserable in glasgow in morning, by 2pm it had cleared & sunny on course and I'd four more hours out in open quite literally .....

curse that you didnt go to-day,the weather forecast for rest of week is horrendous with severe weather warnings for Sat,probably force play to be stopped for a while.

Went on the wednesday practise day.
Good place to sit is the grand stand on the 4th tee. Get to see the approaches into the 3rd green and the putting/chipping, and you're also very close to the players 4th tee shot.

Get ready to see some ridiculously pured iron shots!

I'm going Friday and the forecast is great

Thanks for the advice guys now I best get to sleep :D

There's no public photos full stop on comp days, has been several issues and the R&A tweeted an warning about it yesterday.
so they let you take your phone on the course get the open app then tell you not to use your phone !!!!!! i thought the advice was to turn the sound effect off on the camera.

From http://www.theopen.com

MOBILE DEVICE & CAMERA POLICY

A strict policy will be in place to ensure play is not disrupted in any way.

• All devices must be in SILENT mode at all times.
• Calls must be placed or received in approved designated areas, referred to as “Mobile Device Zones”.
• No audio or video capture is permitted at any time.
• No still photography is permitted on Championship Days.
• Data use (e.g. texting, e-mail, website access, etc) is permitted throughout the golf course. Volume must be muted at all times.

Spectators who breach any provision of this policy will be subject to the terms and conditions of ticket sales.

Probably made worse by half the manufacturers on twitter asking people to take selfies at the open to win prizes. That never seemed like a good idea as only a matter of time before someone tries to get one with a player mid swing in the background

Fish and chips is £12 a pop, take sarnies and save some cash.

If you want to see the likes of Tiger and Rory, it's prob easier to get a few holes in front of them, get a decent spot in a stand or near the ropes at the green and watch them come through. Trying to follow them with the crowds means you can miss more than you'll see.

Or, follow one of the groups behind them (we had Poulter's and then GMac's yesterday) and follow the red route signs. You get to follow them pretty closely.

You can get some nice views watching them come through 10, 11, 12 as a lot of people don't venture to that part of the course.

Well I had a great day yesterday at my first ever world class golf event and ill list a few of my high points and observations below...

⭕️ The weather was fantastic all day

⭕️ Watching Rory & Tiger on the range was fantastic and my observation of Tiger was that he has full control over every club in his bag until he pulls the driver out and he was hooking that beast long before he got onto the first :D

⭕️ The range has been formed on a hole at a nearby muni course and is possibly the worst range I've ever seen

⭕️ Sean Foley is like a real man only smaller

⭕️ I was standing with Lindsey Vonn on a few occasions during Tigers round and the fact that she was with us mere mortals behind the ropes was a surprise (She has a great ass)

⭕️ The bubble that Tiger seems to put himself in during his rounds now comes as no surprise as some of the crap people shout at him is just ridiculous so he has obviously had to build up a defence system that cuts him off from the real world while he plays his golf.

⭕️ I was within touching distance of most of the world stars including Tiger & Rory and I was also stood next to Spieth when he hit his 3 wood on the 10th after putting his drive right. (Side observation) One day someone will mis-hit a shot and a member of the crowd will be seriously injured from a shot that is taken behind the ropes where the crowd surrounds the player.

⭕️ I have plenty of photos and videos and the camera policy isn't as bad as some may think.

⭕️ Fish and chips was £9.50 so steep but not as bad as someone mentioned above.

⭕️ I walked past Dennis Pugh who seemed to be trying to avoid being spotted, maybe because of his past twitter wars with Mr Joe Public

⭕️ The Open as whole seems to be running very smooth and the event organisers deserve a pat on the back

⭕️ It was a great experience getting up close and personal to all of my favourite players but it's almost impossible to see where the ball is going unless you are behind the players which is rare so I will probably be watching most golf on the TV in future but it's defiantly something you have to do once in your lifetime.

I think that pretty much sums it up :blah:

This is a still from a video I got of Tiger walking past us so getting some personal footage isn't that hard...
