I thought that if greenstaff were working in a bunker, it automatically became ground under repair, and told my playing partner so.
She didn't believe me and played ball as it lay ( amidst the greenstaff's footprints)

I spent the rest of the round trying to find this "rule" in the book, but obviously couldn't:o:o:o

Get thee to a Nunnery thou foul spreader of evil words designed to convert non-believers from the path of righteousness under The Rules.......

But good on you for admitting it....can't get the damn smilies to work...insert claps and rofl..!

I would have put money on me being right !

Lucky she played it as it lied rather than taking the mystical relief!

Mrs Mimms used to be a member at my club. One of my playing companions recently hit a ball into a bunker being worked on by the green keepers. They told him that the bunker was temporary GUR and to take a free drop outside the bunker. Therefore NM might have a basis for her "myth".

Is this a local rule at BP?
Can you check the notice board and maybe prove I'm not completely bonkers?

That is very likely. I would guess that it is normal practice. In which case it wouldn't be a myth.

Thanks rulefan.
The greenkeepers weren't doing a major refurb, they were just in the bunker strimming the edges or summat like that. I had the impression that greenstaff in a bunker doing anything mean it was temp GUR.

So this would have to be a local rule displayed at BPGC? I obviously can't check their noticeboard now that I have left!

Is there a specimen local rule?

Not to my knowledge but I would suggest something like the words in 33-8/27.

Any bunker marked with a blue(orange/pink) flag is ground under repair. If a player's ball lies in that bunker or if that bunker interferes with the player's stance or the area of his intended swing and the player wishes to take relief, he must take relief outside the bunker, without penalty, in accordance with Rule 25-1b(i).

Interesting about the flag bit- why not have "greenkeeper in bunker" as the thing that defines temp GUR?
Would that be if they stepped out of a bunker (where they eg were trimming edges) to get something from truck, it would stop being GUR while they were out?

Sorry if I'm making this complicated!

I mentioned a flag because that is what we use if a bunker is out of action because it is full to the gunwales or the greenkeepers are doing maintenance and will possibly be away getting materials or having a break.

It's easier than (accurately?) painting a white line around the edge of the bunker.

That makes perfect sense thanks.
Also if the maintenance is very short term, ie half an hour trimming the edges, you don't want a white line that lasts for days
